They might physically fit but I'd be wary about whether they'd be rated for the weight of a Defender. Darren

surely a disco 5 is heavier than a 90 hardtop ? |

Different PCD. Disco Sport is 5x108 (same as Evoque and Freelander 2).
New Defender (and D3/D4/RRS/L322/L405) are 5x120.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

So have I got this right, standard D3/4 rims will fit, without spacers?

Its the spacer/offset thing that I'm not sure of - Mr Searles has already stated elsewhere that D3/D4/D5 wheels will fit
My research says D3/D4 18's (which interest me) rims are (for 255/60R18 112V tyres) 8Jx18 ET53 5x120 And the New Defender 18's rims are (for 255/70R18 116V tyres) 8Jx18 ET41.5 5x120 With an ET value of 53 the D3/D4 rims will stick further out by 11.5mm as compared to the New Defender rims. Is this an issue? No idea. BTW - someone please correct me if I got this wrong! 
I still have a D3 18" wheel with a Zero on it thats only done literally 200 miles  and I'll use it to do some physical checking when my car arrives. The tyre is sacrifical as its only 30" whereas 32" tyres are needed. Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac 255/70R18's can be had from Black Circles at less than £140 a corner so I reckon I can get a complete second set of off-roadies for less than £800 (just over half the alleged cost of the official white steel rims alone!)

I think the larger ET on the D3/4 Rims will mean they stick IN not OUT more
As its the distance between the Hub Face and the centreline of the rim - larger - more in towards suspension - smaller more it sticks out.. |

You may get away without a spacer as the 22" wheels use 275 tyres - so already 10mm wider - as have lots of people who fitted BFG 275 55 20 tyres...
Its a suck and see - but believe spacers are available in 30mm widths... |

I tried to fit r18 D3 on my D200 and doesn't fit. It was rubbing on the calipers. I even tried with 30mm spacers.
