not many used P400HSE's available here in the USA...
I've searched Autotrader and it seems there are not many used P400HSE Defenders available which is a good thing. It also seems that the used ones are selling for as much as the brand new ones...

Not surprising given that they've only been on the roads for maybe 8-9 months? I bet you'll find some used Defenders for sale this summer on Ford lots when the new Bronco finally comes to market.

I don't think the Bronco is a direct competitor to the Defender here in the USA. The Bronco seems to be in direct competition with the Jeep Wrangler. I like the Wrangler and the new Bronco but I would never give up my Defender for either one of them...I wouldn't even give my Defender up to have both. Ray

Advertised price from a main dealer on his demo?

120 new ones available all from dealers, so do you know how many have actually been sold?

Yes, I would think that's just the dealers advertised price but even if they discount it a few thousand then it's still rather high for a used one. I have no idea how many have actually been sold but I think the P400HSE & P400X will hold the best resale value. Mine has been an absolute pleasure to drive since the day that I took delivery of it on September 26, 2020. I haven't had any mechanical or software issues so far. It feels way more practical for me than my 2016 L405 Range Rover does. I'm definitely looking forward to purchasing the X model once they have refined it more over the next few years and have more color choices available. I really would love to have an X model in Fuji White with the dark tan leather interior. Ray

Bronco and Wrangler are definitely the most direct competitors, but Defender is totally in the mix with an optioned up Jeep or Bronco. I think a high % of current Defender buyers are the Land Rover faithful that have experience with the brand, plus a % of vanity buyers looking for the SUV of the moment. When the vanity buyers shift to the Bronco, guess we'll see what, if any, impact it has on Defender sales.

I guess if you're looking at a completely base model Defender then maybe a high optioned Wrangler or Bronco will be in the mix. However, if you're looking at a P400HSE or P400X Defender then I would have to say the closest competitor is maybe the Land Cruiser/Lexus LX. The Defender X will probably even take some sales away from the Mercedes G-Class once LR has refined it and starts offering the V8 supercharged engine and more color options. Ray

Character, image, style, capabilities (towing is a big one) are so utterly different between the Defender and Bronco, I don’t think they will appeal to the same market segments except for maybe a thin sliver. I would never consider having a Wrangler as my main car, and have about the same level of interest in the Bronco. I’d be more likely to cross shop against a Grand Cherokee if I was to even consider a Jeep product. I have an old wrangler I use to move stuff around and launch boats, but that’s about all the wrangler driving I’d ever want to do. Certainly would never dream of sitting in one for a multi-day cross country trip like I would in a Defender. Wouldn’t think of doing that in a Bronco either. Just different markets.
