Evoque Sales in Europe 2020
So both good news and bad news.

Good news being only 2% down on previous year's sales in a market down 16%.

Bad news being, in a niche JLR have said they created, just look at how the big players in Merc, Audi and BMW have pushed them aside; and then there's Volvo, riding on a huge high. What differentiates them from the rest?

3/3: Premium C-SUVs found 395,000 new clients, down 16%. A big hit the #VolvoXC40, which also became the top selling premium vehicle in Europe.

At a guess....and my 2 pence

Small Mercedes look laughable

The Audi’s recent designs are too angular and don’t look as soft and sleek as they used to be

The BMW just looks hideous

The Volvo looks modern, practical, ready for work and play and the interior looks amazing.

And finally the Evoque ( my wife had one for a few years) just does not stand out against the Discovery Sport in terms of family practicality nor the Velar in terms of looks. Again wifey has had/ has these as well.

The Evoque is a better two person car, not a family steed ...

They sold 60k Discovery Sports worldwide in that period, that’s surely a more direct XC40 rival.

This is just Europe ~ Evoque worldwide sold over 70k.

Disco Sport is classed as one tier up D-SUV Premium and so in same tier as XC60.

And XC40, indeed all XC models dwarf LR competitors:

Despite the circumstances, #Volvo Cars was able to post a moderate drop of 6% last year. The positive contribution of #VolvoXC40 helped to offset the big loses registered by the S90/V90 models and the discontinuation of #VolvoV40. Almost half of Volvo sales occurred in Europe.

Out of that list I would prefer the XC40, my partner has a V40 and we've looked at the XC and they are very nice indeed, and if anything like the V40 pretty good build quality aswell (don't talk to me about door catches tho).

My problem with the LR range at the moment is they all look the same! (except the Defender) the front end styling from a Disco sport upto the Range Rover are so similar nothing really sets them apart. You used to be able to tell a Disco from a Range Rover, now you need to look for the badge. The new Defender is growing on me and is my choice out of the whole LR range, but if they still did a Disco 4 it would have to be that.

Cheers

Volvo spoke a couple of years back about reducing the top speed of all of their cars to 100mph to help reduce emissions.

Did anything come of this?

Yes, all new Volvos are limited to 180 km/h.

Volvo have nailed what people want/need from a family car - but having the use of a newish, high-spec XC90, there’s very little satisfaction in actually driving it. It’s also miles away from a Discovery or RR in terms of SUV-style ability - really just a tall estate car.

But let’s carry on kicking JLR.

Quite literally the first words in the thread:

Do you suppose someone makes up the sales figures just to make JLR look bad?

But let’s carry on waving a flag for JLR, whilst senior managers pay themselves £ millions, devalue the brand, lose record sums of money, have reliability low and warranty costs sky high, put a halo model out of production for 10s of months, offshore production, and pay ridiculously low wages to employees to build "premium" models?
