Move the seat forward so you can fully depress the clutch

Unfortunately that's not it ![]() And it doesn't explain the TC sound. |

I get this as well, not sure what it is, but it's been doing it from new, it's not a transmission type noise.

Guys... Does the TC/ABS noise you mention sound a bit more like the sound of twanging a ruler on the edge of a table??
I get the noise once in a blue moon and the only consistent factor I've noticed is that it's when the steering is either on or very close to full lock.. I have standard size tyres, so not tyre rubbing as far as I can ascertain. Did wonder if the steering stops needed adjusting but haven't checked this yet. I've heard it on my BIL's 2009 Puma too under similar circumstances , so have to say, I have just accepted it as another of the 'peculiarities'. Setok - would be interested to hear your dealer feedback ![]() |

I get the same noise. usually when going up something steep on a bounce, or downhill over a rock. TWAAAAANG. its not the lock stops, sounds more like clutch spring but i d love to know what it is |

I also get it when turning at full lock on uneven road surfaces, especially at intersections (frequented by big trucks) that have ripples in the surface ![]() 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged ![]() ![]() Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

I can't remember if the steering had anything to do with it, but I'll have to remember that when it next happens. Maybe the ruler against the desk is quite similar, but then again I think the ABS/TC noise is exactly like that (TC worried the hell out of me when I first heard it on my friend's Defender — until I figured it out). A short burst of clacks. I think what some of you are describing is just normal TC operation (ie. one wheel possibly momentarily in the air or losing traction). For me it can happen on dry, flat concrete...
Good to know that others have it too, even from new, but I don't remember ever hearing it in the other Defenders I've driven. For this visit to the dealers we ended up focusing on getting the roof rack on, plus fixing dash lights and a couple of niggles. Next time it happens I will try to see if steering might have had something to do with it, so then I can give a proper report to the dealer and ask what it might be. |

Now that you mention it, it has happened under different conditions, I noticed yesterday it happened on flat surface while I waited for our electric gate to open. The twaaang seemed to come from under the accelerator? ![]() 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged ![]() ![]() Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

Yes, that's exactly the area where the sound comes from when TC or ABS kicks in, which is why I think it might be related to that... |

I get this too! If taking a tight ish turn on uneven surface, also when parking and bringing clutch up a bit sharp.
I think it's just the ABS/TC system being a bit over sensitive, not an problem to worry about, just a bit annoying! My old discovery td5 also used to do it on tight /uneven turns. Mike |

+1
Happens too on my Td5. I notice it mostly during parking manoeuvres, or when I drive over a mini-roundabout. |

I have been monitoring with my Nanocom and my left rear sense voltage was lower then the others, I wonder if this could be causing the issue.
