And then they moved to X5’s and couldn’t move anything........... but the X5’s were more reliable..... Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

It’s only once you’ve broken down on the Mway do you realise how much of present day motorways doesn't have a barrier to get behind. Bridges, electronic boxes, infrastructure, etc, they are protected but the squishy humanoid that’s unfortunately broken down there has absolutely no protection from the lorry driver that’s drifted into the hard shoulder watching TV or doing his paperwork.

With apologies both for the thread drift and for the poor quality of the photo (copied from a book), I have always liked this example, well-known in heavy haulage circles. One of Sunters' Scammell Contractors had stalled and couldn't restart on Billingham Bank, Stockon-on-Tees, as a result of the tight roundabout just visible in the background. Peculiarities with the early torque converter and Allison auto box meant it couldn't quite restart the load on the hill, and couldn't roll back for a run-up due to the roundabout. Enter a completely standard 2286cc Series III Landrover (which I seem to remember reading just happened to be passing), which was able to provide just enough assistance to get the outfit moving. There are over 250 tons on the end of the bar/rope/chain connecting the Landrover to the Scammell.

Great film, very evocative. Some cracking lorries, and two out of every three cars is a Cortina. I particularly like the impressive arrival of the ambulance in the snow at around the 40 minute mark, very cool to come belting up, lose it big time, and crash into a Police car! Rolling with laughter

One thing i thought was a really good idea during a road trip through the American Mid West was that on the freeways there were signs stating it was a State law to move over and make space if there was a vehicle on the hard shoulder with its hazards on.

Totally agree with your comment, seeing vehicles pass you at 80 mph when you are waiting recovery is not a nice experience, so what does the UK do, removes hard shoulders and calls it Smart....... Shocked

I was watching a You Tube channel earlier in the week and the guys there are looking change their Bronco order and made an interesting comment, the First Edition Bronco is very close to its GVW and has no tow rating.

I think it needs the harder edges of the old Defender to make that colour work?

Some colour schemes work, some don't. For me, that one doesn't work.
Deep bronze green could be a possibility though.
