Those four are good examples, because each one of them is as far away from an authentic utility vehicle as it’s possible to get.

The Wrangler is just a leisure toy that only Americans would buy (and 1* NCAP isn’t really cutting it in the 21st Century), the Jimny (as likeable as it may be) is of no real use for anything at all. The Bronco is another marketing-led pastiche - literally a T6 Ranger in a frock with some camp accessories, whilst the W463A G Class is possibly the most cynical new car you can buy - a car which will never, ever go off-road, will never be available in commercial or utility form, but is compromised by the sort of underpinnings you’d expect in a £25k pickup, all in an attempt to give it the credibility it will never have.

The full bulkhead is standard fit, not sure how easily it can be removed. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

That 90 looks lovely. The blue suits it well. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

I do like that summary and in fairness its true

Dont forget how much the G-Wagon costs

The problem with Defender old to new...it was never really iterated because of money, opinion and sales...so there wasnt any natural evolution - i think it wouldn't look too dissimilar if it had changed, compare the RR Classic to the FFRR Mike

I'm also waiting with interest to see if the bulkhead can be removed on a 90HT. I've got one on order anyway but it will be so much easier to reach my lunchbox in the back if it can be removed..! D5. Previously 90HT, D4, D4, D4, D2, D1 (3 door V8!)

I do cringe at the thought of how long will it be before we start seeing the new Defenders being sold for less money than the old defender? Back of an envelope modelling of current residuals it’s about 3 years we will see a 3 year old defender worth less than a 13 year old defender, especially if residuals for the old model remain. Puma 90 XS - Sold
D3 - 2.7 S x2 (both Sold)
Freelander 2 HSE - Sold
Freelander 1 - Sold
Disco 2 - Sold

And removing the window blanks. The bulkhead looks like it would be easy to remove but I would be very interested re whether the window covers could be removed. Then the 90HT would be ideal for me but for 2 things, my Oztent wouldn’t fit and the pesky 50mph speed limit on single carriageway roads. The speed averaging cameras on the A9 make that a little bit of an issue. Sad

So whats the price delta for that extra 10mph on a 90 rather than a 90HT? Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

You say residuals will reverse, well they probably will. The original Defenders are classics. The best of the original unmolested examples will always be sought after.

Not sure about the rusty leaky, raised springs and big wheel brigade though. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

Another 90 video, pretty much my spec.

That's pretty much my ideal spec too. Can't see me ever replacing my 90 but I definitely want something a little more comfortable for road trips now. My other half has firmly stated we are not doing Scotland again in the Old 'Fender. https://instagram.com/bentheoandrews

What’s the camera above the rear number plate? Part of the towing assistance gubbins?

Its the standard rear view camera on all of them

The one in the ariel is the Mirror Camera

Can someone explain the Tax and Speed comments about buying the HT?

I would buy it for private use.... and had not thought about restrictions..
