Click image to enlarge Hello Does anyone know if there should be a mount here between the tranny and the cross member ? Looks like there should be, but I cant find it on the drawings. Does anyone know the PN for it, or do you have the same space on yours ? Thanks Kev |

It has been a frequent question, but we’ve all been new at some point. It was a nice polite question and hope he goes on to learn, stay here, and then he can answer the newby question next time.

Its OK you old timers can have your fun I did do a search first but not all threads are intuitively named. After the ridicule I searched again and found several threads answering my question. I do all work on my Defender myself so you guys can be expecting more dumb questions. I appreciate the help Kev |

Maybe should ask to why Landrover decided to weld in the bracket on the gearbox cross member. I cannot recall of seeing an answer to that. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Hey Kev, don't take it the wrong way. We're not making fun of you - more the ridiculousness of the thing that clearly looks like it should have some sort of connection but never has. Darren

I'm good
I guess the bracket is a left over from some previous models. I've noticed a few things that were not changed since the beginning of time. |

It's not a leftover in this case. The most plausible explanation I've heard is that it was originally designed as a mount but was found to either be not needed or in some way detrimental during development and the chassis was never updated. That's not an official answer, though. Darren
