I was recently involved with the submissions to the select committee looking at reviewing young driver education. The problem is legislation is cheap where as education is expensive.
The most common question asked of an ADI is how cheaply can you get my kid through their test. By the time someone is learning to drive they purely want freedom, they are interested in getting in to uni or work or getting to friends or into friends underwear. Learning to operate a dangerous piece of equipment is just a necessary hassle. It is also not helped that the examiner says I am pleased to inform you that you have passed rather than I am willing to allow you to continue learning to drive unaccompanied. |

https://twitter.com/surreyroadcops/status/1328340538832121858 The source of the data appears to be from government statistics gathered together here:- https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/g...s-2019.pdf The statistics are gathered from a variety of sources, police and hospitals, but no indication of ‘cause’ or ‘blame’ is made. In terms of training or educations of all road users, then we all owe it to each other to make sure that we are equipped with the skills and attitude necessary to complete a journey without causing harm to others. When I hear or read posts of people saying that other road users shouldn’t be on the road, or should get out of the way, all that says to me is that the individual saying or posting that does not have the right attitude to be a careful and competent road user. I'll stand corrected but it appears a mis-use of the data then if the Roads Policing Unit tweets this with that graphic: "We often focus our enforcement efforts against those who do most harm to vulnerable road users. This chart shows why a lot of that effort is directed at car drivers." I wonder if the copper also talks to bridge owners about the number of people jumping off them or should that be people owning the ground on which they land? |
