Now that the decision has been made about the restoration I have now removed the front end, lights and A bar are gone and fitted a temporary front grille to see how it would look all black?

Dismantled most of the body now. Work being done by Retrograde Autobody in Blairgowrie - it’s well beyond my capabilities to do body work and paint.
Door bottoms were not too bad - just put in some repair sections and will be painted. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Rear cross member corners repaired, rest of chassis is perfect. Fair bit or surface rust on the capping, think I will replace them as part of the rebuild along with new seals all round. Nice work on going there.
If the body shop does not specialize in Defenders, do remark to them to not hide the spot welds in the bodywork. The work in the cross member looks top notch. But maybe since you have gone this far, would be nice to check the top side of the rear cross member. It tends to rust on top as well, just behind the fuel tank. Unfortunately however it would mean a tub off job, which will increase costs, but well worth it in my opinion. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Good work Christian, glad to see it loved. Those cappings are surprising. I know there were a few bubbles showing under the visible pieces, but most of that looks like it was hidden under the seal.
Compare with the 52 year old cappings that came of my Series restoration, no rust at all because they galvanised them back then. Have you considered galvanising the replacements? 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV 1966 S2a 109 aka Betsy 1968 S2a 88 aka Bob 2014 Jaaaag F Type 3.0 Supercharged. |

The guy doing the restoration work is familiar with Landrover, in fact he drives a Disco3 as his main car
He has done a few defenders before and I do rate his work, the fact he is 20 meters from our pub is fairly handy also Yes the capping were a surprise Gareth as you don’t see any of that rust until you remove the seals, it’s not terminal in any way but I will replace them anyway. probably go down the route of galvanising them later. The biggest surprise was the bulkhead, there is not one single bit rust around the usual areas - pretty pleased with that. Roof and windscreen frame have there first coat of expoy now... just been in to check on it today. That’s not the final colour of Oslo Blue, we just tinted the epoxy so you don’t see any future stone chips or scratches. 2002 Td5 | 90 County Station Wagon | Oslo Blue 2006 Td5 | 90 County Station Wagon | Tonga Green (Gone ) 2002 Td5 | 90 County Station Wagon | Zambezi Silver (Gone) Last edited by Bev on 7th Jan 2021 6:29pm. Doors and Panels now in Epoxy ( still tinted epoxy not the final Oslo Blue )
Next up will be the tub and bulkhead areas. They are not too bad so just being painted in situ. Rear cross member will also get a couple of coats of black.
