Defender 110 Rear Door Drawers

I started a project a little while back. SWAMBO and I were camping and thought it would be nice to have a place to put our clothes without having to scratch around in a kit bag.

At the risk of becoming a "glamper" I decided to build a little structure behind my drivers seat. This will be accessible inside the Bundusuite (Some slight adjustments to the Bundusuite will follow shortly to allow access to the drawers through the rear door)

Here is the lower drawers carcass that will gets 2 drawers on each side. These drawers will go all the way to the center of the vehicle. They will be for recovery gear, tools and possibly shoes in the top drawer ... (This carcass is bolted down to where the rear chairs were fixed as well as to the box under the cubby-box between the front seats)

I still have to design something for behind the passenger side. However in the above pictures you can see where my 60l water tank will go as well as the position of my drinks fridge (this will also be strapped down to the bottom carcass). I will add a little door to the triangle piece towards the rear of the bottom drawers so I can access the tap for the water tank on the passenger side.

Drawers are a fiddly

... but here are all 4 drawers (dry fit)

This module has a bracket that will bolt it securly to the lower carcass.

You may notice the the top has higher sides. This is for things like our bird books / binoculars for when we are in the bush. (I may put a cargo net over it to keep some items in place, in case I need to drive a little further - possibly between camps ... who knows)

Good job

A word of caution, the bottom piece of plywood in the footwell may be susceptible to moisture as is common in 110's at the base of the B pillar and door.

Perhaps lining underneath it with some form of barrier or a few coats of paint may help

Thanks for the pointer.

Yes I have had moisture there before. I was actually looking at putting a couple of layers of fiberglass on the part that goes in the foot well. In addition to that I am going to fiberglass the compartment that holds the water tank as I have had that thing leak before as well.

There is a bunduawn on the other side ... so I had to put the drawers on the drivers side to balance it out...
