I've only just noticed that the advertisement also describes the "Eiffel Williams" canopy as "new", when you can clearly see from the photos that (a) it has been modified presumably to alter the length and (b) it is the wrong length for the rear buck.
If the chassis is genuine and from 1985, then I think it would have left the factory as a 127", and would have been built on a stretched 110 chassis with the extra 17" welded in by SVO (I can't remember when the "130" got its own line and purpose built chassis, but I think it was some time later). I can't see any evidence of this in the photos, although to be fair you can't see much of the chassis. If the chassis and engine have been replaced it is doubtful that the original registration could legitimately have been retained. The registration records at DVLA also indicate that the vehicle is a 110, but as I recall genuine factory 127s built on stretched 110 chassis were registered as 110s. Other red flags for me:
- Says bought 4 months ago, yet the last keeper change was 2018 - The VIN that the DVLA has is not a Td5 VIN - It's obviously a Td5 chassis - The engine no. that the DVLA has is a 12J - Looks like the original 80's style vin plate has been put onto the brake pedal box Built 1986, registered 1991 6 previous keepers Changed keepers 1997, 1998, 2015, 2018 (and others prior to 1997) LR Workshop Find a Defender's history and spec: https://defender.lrworkshop.com |

If it's a Td5 chassis, engine and gearbox, the vehicle cannot possibly retain its original registration since there isn't enough of the original vehicle left and assuming multiple donors should be on a Q plate.
So it may be that the identity of a scrapped 12J-engined 127 has been put onto a Td5-engined 130, but why would you do that given that the Td5 would be worth more as a genuine Td5 than as a rebuilt 1985 four-pot 127? The only reason I can see is that the provenance of the 130 was such as you had to hide it, and the only identity you had available for the purpose was the 127. Anyone going to bid on this bargain, then? |
