‘08 2.4 tdci BBUS
Recently purchased a std 110 SW to replace the 90 softtop we sold a year ago... trying to provide new layers of security...

Is there an easy way to tell if it has a BBUS fitted ? I understand that on the Puma models its not in the usual headlight place..... but where is it or should it be ?

The easiest way to tell if you have one fitted is to disconnect the battery without following the disarming procedure. If an alarm goes off then you have one. Just pull the earth lead off and then, assuming you do have a BBUS, re-connect it to turn it off again. Darren

On a standard Puma if fitted it is in exactly the same easily accessible place as on the Td5. Shocked

The only significant difference between the Td5 and TDCi is that all Td5s had the wing harness wiring to support a BBUS, whether or not they were fitted with one, whilst Pumas only have the harness if they left the factory with a BBUS (they had a "value-engineered" harness without the BBUS wiring if not). If you retrofit one to a Puma you need the Td5 wing harness (but if you have any sense you'll modify it to fit the BBUS somewhere less accessible).

also you may find brown plug and loom has been left out. you can add the missing parts of the loom and mount BBUS in more stubble place

Thanks all - definitely don’t have it in the usual easily accessible place - so presume my Puma did not leave the factory with it.

Any clues as to what’s required to fit the TD5 loom and add it in ?

Yes. If fitting in the usual place, obtain Td5 wing harness. Replace TDCi wing harness with Td5 wing harness (can be a little fiddly since the harness runs between the inner and outer wing panel, but otherwise is just a case of unplugging and unclipping the old and replacing it with the new). Fix BBUS in the usual place. Plug harness in to BBUS. Job done.

If you want to move it, the neatest and best way is to un-sheath the new Td5 harness and split out the four black wires that connect to the BBUS. This will involve cutting and reconnecting the earth connections in the harness, and extending some of them. Do not mix up the four identical black BBUS wires while doing this. The re-sheath the harness keeping the BBUS harness separate. Fit harness onto wing and reconnect the stuff that is already there. Choose a location for the BBUS within range of the BBUS harness, fit and plug up. Job done.

Alternatively you can use an extension harness and leave the wing harness unmodified, but this means that the BBUS connector is still accessible to malfeasants and does create a vulnerability.

The FCX BBUS relocation harness, plugs in between the main harness and the wing harness, diverting the BBUS wiring to a less vulnerable place, leaving the original BBUS connector 'dead'.

This would also work to add a BBUS to a Puma that left the factory without the wiring for one. Paul.

^^^ That's useful to know. The only aftermarket harnesses I've seen plug in by the headlight, so kudos to FCX for avoiding this obvious weakness. As you point out, it also negates the need for fitting a Td5 harness to a TDCi since you don't need the wires to the standard location.

Final thought - do I need to do anything to the existing 10AS immobiliser to get the new BBUS working (akin to the central locking module) ?

Has anyone found anywhere that can supply new BBUS’s as they were made obsolete with landrover about 2 years ago?
