My son (being the 4 year old messer he is) tested this feature for me on either a Discovery Sport or Evoque we had as a courtesy car. Only he didn't say anything and we were doing 70mph on the M6 on our way back to the dealers. Not sure who shat themselves more, me or him! Oops
I think that is why the emergency brake is now situated just above the drivers knee and away from the passenger. Took me a while to realise where it is when wifey got a Velar. |

What's an "emergency brake" in the context of a modern car, then? Why is it necessary (after about 150 years of not being necessary)? |
