1998 Defender 90 V8 Petrol 50th Auto Atlantis Blue

Relay Removal

Sorry for the School Boy Question...

Just went to remove the Pink Dim Dip relay and it would not pull out - before I just go back and give it a really good pull - are there any clips or restraining bits?

2007 TDCi - RHD - the fuse is in the fuse box under the steering wheel.

If you just give it a hard pull you may pull the socket out the fuse box and even the wires out the socket ( talking from experience ) I now opt for a gentler approach and try to get a flat bladed screw driver in between the relay and the socket to gently prise the relay away from the socket until it becomes easier to remove. The clips on mine were on the socket and located on lugs on the relay, again a thin flat screwdriver eased them up over the lugs.

You can just see the lugs on the side near the base - the above image being the two pin ie Dim Dip defeat version of the relay

Thank you llessur - I opted for a small broad flat screwdriver - with a a bit of a wobble - it did come out

Out of interest - that looks like the bypass relay you have fitted - did you fit that to a TDCi?

Yes it replaced the original as I had trouble with the Dim Dip option after I fitted LED lights. Though at £20 off fleabay it was a waste of money as I read on hear that I could have just unplugged the resister "thingy" under the drivers side wing, bit further down towards the front from the wing mounted aerial base.

I have just posted separately on here about the topic! - I took out the pink relay, but it has an awful lot of connectors on it - I was expecting it to look like the relays from previous versions, 4 or 5 connectors.

Can you recall what the relay you replaced looked like?

Fitted as per advice the Dummy Relay and all works perfectly.
