Ok car nerds... first, identify why I got a bit obsessed with this. Second, try and figure out how the hell it would work! 🤔

I've seen that car, it's JLR's classic collection at their Classic Works place. I had it explained what it was, but can't remember. I want to say it was for the military with an electric motor driving second diff, but could be wrong. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

That is what I thought.. a very early hybrid.. probably has a 'silent mode' button. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Twin rear diffs, too and a very busy engine bay, by the looks of it. As above, I'd also think early hybrid drive. Darren

I think it might be Landrover's attempt to create a perpetual motion machine, in which the front axle drives the rear axle which drives the front axle which drives ...

... well, you get the idea.

I imagine that they rapidly realised the flaw with this, and that is why we don't all have them.

At the same time it also looks very similar to the Tatra 4x4 system with dual crown and pinion setup per axle. Diff is further up the transmission tube.
If you look at the Defender pic, the way the diff pans are welded suggest that the pinions would rotate in opposite direction.

Take a look at the Tatra setup:  1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I just came across a slightly better picture of this vehicle on Instagram and it turns out to be a NAS 90 with full roll cage. It is a prototype petrol electric hybrid.

Yeah, either that or P38, depending when it was built I guess. Darren
