Iāve not got my Defender yet, but am searching insurance options. Currently Iām with A Plan for my D4, which is costing about Ā£550 per year.
A Plan havenāt quoted for the new Defender yet, they say they will but coming back to me. A quick compare the market looks like itās going to be over a grand to insure it. Is this about what others are paying? Itās a 110 Dynamic X 300D HSE, costing Ā£74500 so it is considerably more valuable than the D4, but obviously has latest safety tech and security. I wasnāt expecting such a jump to be honest. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV 1966 S2a 109 aka Betsy 1968 S2a 88 aka Bob 2014 Jaaaag F Type 3.0 Supercharged. |

21MY comes with a years subscription to LRs secure tracker, wouldāve thought that would bring prices down slightly. Unless that price is with a tracker.
I just checked the meerkats for my 90 just for a rough idea as they are now listed, but no one would provide a quote perhaps a bit too early yet. 110 base model for me is less than Ā£350 |

From what I have read of others on here, with their insurance woes, once you are over a certain high risk age, I think your insurance quote has more to do with your Post Code than much else.
Obviously accidents, drink / drug driving and points / driving bans are not going to help your cause, but for those of you without this luggage, I think it really is location, location, location. Back in the late 80's, before the days of ANPR, I worked with a bunch of Mancunians who had come over to my neck of the woods to work on a construction job. Insurance, even for a beat up Escort Estate was eyewatteringly expensive for them. They drove with no insurance They were driving backwards and forwards between Norfolk and Greater Manchester for months and never got caught. Now I'm not condoning driving without insurance (and with ANPR these days, it's not going to be that easy) but that was 1988 and even then, car insurance was difficult to obtain (well at least it was difficult to be done cheaply!!) depending on where you lived. As a post-script to that story, there may well have been other mitigating circumstances as to why these Guys insurance was so high but as a law abiding young man, as I was then, I can remember being really shocked by their attitude to their lack of insurance - but they were a really good bunch of Guys and a great laugh to work with |

I priced out a 2020 Defender X (with VIN number applied for accuracy) and it costs a hair more than a Range Rover Supercharged 8cylinder!!
I then priced out a 2020 Def First Edition and the cost starts to come down. This was enough for me to think the 2021 X-Dynamic will be in range with the First Edition (hopefully the logic is sound). I found one insurance company with an updated database that includes the 2021 X-Dynamic and was quoted very close to a 2020 First Edition. I'll have to go look at numbers that I recorded but if memory serves me correctly it is about $80 USD more per month for the X-Dynamic versus my 2013 LR4. First Edition D250 with elephant insurance was under Ā£500 for me I had a few extras on there so yours seems very high unless youāve had car accidents and previous claims?

No claims or convictions, 55 years old. Live in Stockport area so that might be going against me.
Since I posted I have confirmation from the dealer that the car has Thatcham cat6 rating on immobiliser and tracker. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV 1966 S2a 109 aka Betsy 1968 S2a 88 aka Bob 2014 Jaaaag F Type 3.0 Supercharged. |

The other thing that might be bumping mine up a bit is that I always specify zero voluntary excess. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

I had Ā£200 as voluntary excess and priced it as having no no claims just to see how much it would be as Iāve been driving a company car on their insurance for last 2 years. I normally use confused.com for insurance quotes but I decided to just quickly do Elephant as my last car was through them and it wasnāt bad at all Ā£400ish parked on driveway.

I never get the insurance pricing rationale.....My last car was a 740 xdrive bmw. Cost around Ā£93K brand new. Absolutely loaded with every extra and expensive to fix if it was ever in an accident.
Luckily it wasnāt in the 2.5 years I had it and it was still under the 3 year manufacturers warranty. Price for fully comp insurance including business use - Ā£342 per year..... 2002 Td5 | 90 County Station Wagon | Oslo Blue 2006 Td5 | 90 County Station Wagon | Tonga Green (Gone ) 2002 Td5 | 90 County Station Wagon | Zambezi Silver (Gone) |

A Plan, who I have been with for many years and a few cars have come back to me. Markerstudy, who I am currently with via A Plan, are Ā£950 BUT, they want me to install gates or a bollard, and the Land Rover Secure tracker is not good enough. They need cat S5 whatever that means, S6 is no good.
They also got a price from LV, Ā£1016 but with a huge Ā£1120 compulsory excess. Iām specifying class 1 business use, because both me and Wendy use it in connection with her upholstery business. Iām specifying 4K per year business and 6k private No modifications. I am using the price Iām going to have to pay for this car as itās value, Ā£76365. Looks like Iām going to have to stump up a grand to insure it. Thank god I donāt want to modify it as they would probably all run away laughing!! 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV 1966 S2a 109 aka Betsy 1968 S2a 88 aka Bob 2014 Jaaaag F Type 3.0 Supercharged. |
