Unfortunately from a dealers point of view =
Its old, has no warrantee, needs MOT-ing, wont be going onto the forcourt, they can sell it to the auction house for that then let someone else pick up the repair issues.... Sadly life sucks, an owner's passion for their car is not theirs when looking at the dealers bottom line...... Looking on the bright side at least yours is not a Works V8 and being offered that price as a second hand trade in..... |

markb110 is correct.
But then unless you really didn't want the hassle, or money was unimportant, a Defender is not the kind of vehicle to part-ex but would be much better sold privately. And especially not to a Land Rover dealer who, let's face it, will mostly not have any interest in the old-style of Defender. If a dealer did take a vehicle such as yours in, I am pretty sure it would be snapped up by one of the mechanics (can I still call them that?) in the workshop. Especially if he/she thought they could flip it for a big margin or want it to keep. I think he workshop is about the only place you will still find any love for the old Defender in the glitz of a JLR dealership these days. It's a bit like the thread from a few months (years?) back where people were trying their luck with webuyanycar.com and getting eyewateringly low values. |

To be fair the online valuation thing is just a guide run by algorithms and the like, not a real person with a real brain.
Defenders are impossible to value by a computer because they make no sense at all that's why you can only get a true valuation talking to a human. Nice to see there are things we can still do better than computers!!! |

Regardless of what classic Defender are worth on a UK dealer´s forecourt, they are currently worth more than ever in the eye of Jo public.
In the current climate, where very few new vehicle raise the pulse of the average punter, I am amazed at how much interest a classic Defender generates. I have owned Defenders for 22 years now, and own a number of exciting and rare classic cars. It is often the Defender that generates the most enthusiasm from youngsters and other road users. It has started conversations and opened doors like few other vehicles could have. Certainly no other vehicle that doubles as an everyday hack, a workhorse, people and object mover. Even in "geschwindigkeit" dominated Germany. Home of the autobahn and the legendary Nordschleife, the Defender has a very special role. In the UK, where they are still (literally) a common sight, it is hard to imagine how special a Defender can be. Look at the prices that freshened up pre ´98 Defender demand in the USA. 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MT´s, Recaro CS´s, anorak, wellingtons |

That's a hell of a word
I haven't really got a good grasp of English. Been trying for nearly 50 years now. Still failing miserably |

There´s sooo many stupidly long words in German.
Doppelkuplungsgetriebe - is dual clutch gearbox, of course.... Fuehrerscheinanfaenger - a learner driver Lastkraftfahrzeugfuehrer....... is ....a truck driver. ... just to name three that come to mind..... But ask a British engineer whether a component is going to maintain stability and remain structurally cohesive, and you will get a trilogy of explanations as an answer, with romance and humour to round it off. A German will think about it for a minute or two and answer with a simple "ja" or "nein". No romance, emotion or humour..... 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MT´s, Recaro CS´s, anorak, wellingtons |
