Base models of Evoque and DiscoSport have been 2WD for a long time - IIRC they were badged ED4 instead TD4 or SD4, even the up market 4WD versions have a system to aid fuel economy that automatically disengages drive to the rear wheels above 23mph if traction allows and LR claim it will re-engage 4WD in 1/300th of a second if slip of the front wheels is detected. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come 2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! |

Is this not what Ford is doing with the new Bronco. The larger Bronco is, i believe going to be a body on chassis, a smaller Bronco being monocoque.

Seems this story is being dusted off again and doing the rounds:
"Speculation mounts that £25,000 ‘baby’ Land Rover Defender is not far off" https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/cov...d-19236909 Either digging round for car stories, or the new boss has given a thumbs up and plans are going to move forward. Maybe pushed along by spare capacity in Nitra that needs filling. |

I remember thinking I would like a DC100 at £25k price point as my every day car to replace the BMW 1 Series so good luck to them if they resurrect it. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

They could avoid confusion and just call it a Freelander.

Speculation - believe - forthcoming - expected - 2022 - ...
No sourcing at suppliers has been started. (Yet?) No way to see this by 2022. |

Left field thought, but why don't JLR help themselves with CO2 emissions and make the new baby Defender on this platform?

Just thinking of the EV underpinnings though, forget the bodyshell.

See other people are thinking about it too ~ especially when you look at the cost:
The PlugSeeker (@The_PlugSeeker) Tweeted: Nice. Who would fancy a fully electric SUV like this Nexon by Indian company Tata motors (which owns @Jaguar ) 30kWh battery , 95kW motor, range 194 miles (?NEDC??), at cost $18,000 😁 https://t.co/c4bs6UMcj2 https://twitter.com/The_PlugSeeker/status/...12226?s=20 Click image to enlarge |
