United Kingdom 2013 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 XS DCPU Keswick Green
SWB, MBW and LWB works for me; and is enough of a nod to the past whilst easy enough to decode for the average car punter looking at the new models for the first time.

The first slide above goes beyond the ' 90 ' designation ~ it actually has the inch symbol ' 90" ' Shocked

I noticed the inch symbol too plus the fact the drawing of the 130 has a longer wheelbase when the specs say its the same as the 110! At work I say if you want a powerpoint doing do it yourself! 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

I was wondering what The models L462 and L550 mentioned in the documents are so googled them
L462 is Disco5 and L550 is Discovery Sport. Does anybody know what the model designations were for the “classic” Defenders, if they even had an L number? Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

I took it to mean Short Wheel Base, Medium Wheel Base and Long Wheel Base, although the fact that the last two will be the same and based on the 110 (which isn't the wheelbase anyway) shows the nonsense of it all. Darren

That would have made perfect sense and somewhat aligned with history, but in the build sheet for a MY21 110 this is one of the items specified:
101AG Standard Wheelbase (SWB)

The “L” codes started under BMW ownership (L for Land Rover, R for Rover), think the Freelander was the first (CB40 became L20) - the old Defender never had one under BMW. Two digits changed to three under Ford (L20 > L314, L30 > L322 etc), and the Defender became L316.

Proof, if it were needed, that LR have lost the plot. Darren

I think the first was the P38A Range Rover, which from memory related to the room that the design team for that model worked on. I also recently heard the 2.2 Defender referred to as L317, which was a new one on me. Darren

They generally had names back then - the Discovery was Project Jay, the P38A (buildings 38 and 38A) started as Project Discovery (confusingly), then became Pegasus, but was changed to put the press off the scent.

Just looked up the length of the old 130, google advised its 5063mm so the new 130 will be a smidge longer. hopefully this will be all added load space and a proper 3rd row. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

Given the relative proportions of engine and cabin spaces between the new and old, I'd guess the new is more likely to be nearer to an old 110 inside. Third row, yes, but not as cavernous as an old 130. Darren
