Six year service is a biggy. Had mine done this year. As Ianh says, all of the above to be replaced.
Are you looking at a Main Dealer or Indy price? My Indy was around half the price of the Dealer and they only use genuine LR parts. |

Cheers - I use Indy and they have quoted £595 which includes tax and mot. This is about £180 more than last years A service. Seems a bit steep but cheaper that LR who wanted £950

That’s about what I paid so not far off (unless we are both being ripped off )
My mate has an F Pace and he has been quoted nearly that by two Indies just for a minor service (oil and filter) The Defender seems almost like value for money |

Hello Grapax
I acknowledge that a Dealer Service is preferred by many, or (if chosen carefully) I believe a good independent can be as good or even better (care and quality) and almost certainly less expensive..... but for a JLR Defender B Service plus those timed major oil changes placing this in touching distance of 1K maybe its time reflect on how JLR might reach this. Depending on what vehicle is being Serviced I believe that currently JLR labour charges (not costs) are between £2-3 / Min so (if correct) a Defender 'on the scale of complexity' should be at the lower end, but lets say JLR charge £150 / Hr and a B Service is 5 Hrs work (being generous) this = £750 If I buy from JLR absolutely every specified Oil and Filter for a full B Service (i.e every fluid changed apart form Cooling, Steering and Breaks) this costs me around £250 (Engine, Gearbox, Transfer Box, Differentials, Swivel Pins, UJs plus Air and Fuel Filters) The Result is 1K... is this what's going on... My Dad would have said if presented with a £950 quote... 'I want to service it - not sell it' (you get my point) Good luck which ever way you go... Hi X4SKP
Thanks for your detailed reply. I liked your Dad’s comment - that made me laugh. I think I’ll go with the cost my Indy provided it’s slightly high but not stupid Thanks also to others that have commented |

F*** me - I'm glad I don't let garages service mine . Last "service" included an swapping an entire engine and was still cheaper than £595, OK not factoring in my labour but that was an engine swap, clutch change since I was there and full service in 6h on my own... One thing I would do Grapax is to get your Indy and yourself to have a real good look at corrosion areas while in for the service. , window blocks, windscreen frame, bulkhead, bulkhead bonnet hinge, door sills and pillars , etc and if their are ANY areas with corrosion get it to a main dealer, point them out and get them to contact JLR to get rectified before your 6 years are up. It may be a bit late given you have a 2014 plate but thought I would highlight.
As for your ongoing service needs, all the fluids, even for this service plus filters are very easy to do with full guides on here and minimal tools. Even buying a complete socket set, torque wrench, ramps etc if you don’t have them would be covered by the money’s you save on just your first diy service. Now money may not be the object, so you are just checking you are not getting ripped off, or diy vehicle maintenance is not your thing, or you simply don’t have the time. If that’s the case then going down a good defender Indy route is the best way. However if it’s more about being confident to do the servicing yourself then I’m sure a local member would show you how as that’s what I tend to do with friends, family and neighbours on their vehicles and would do with any local members on defenders. |
