I don't have that problem thankfully, living in Southern California. The 19" size tires were literally "made up" by Land Rover for the new Defender so, outside of the handful of OEM tires available at launch, there is literally nothing available in the aftermarket yet, including good A/Ts and winters. I reckon the tire industry will catch up eventually if the Defender becomes popular enough. I guess you could downsize just a hair in the meantime, there are several good choices of winter tires if you go a notch smaller, such as 255/60R19 instead of the stock 255/65R19 size, at least here in North America: Michelin, Bridgestone, Yokohama all make severe snow rated, XL tires in that size, and all you lose is about 1/2" of sidewall. 2020 NAS Defender 110 HSE 5-seater / Silver / Khaki / Black Pack / Black Roof / Satin Film / Cold Pack / Off-Road Pack / Advanced OR Pack / Comfort + Convenience Pack / Sirius + HD radio / HUD / Meridian Surround |

thank you for your answer. The problem is that in Italy I am allowed to mount only these tire-sizes: 255/65 R19 255/70 R18 or another size for 20" rims which I'm not interested in. That's the reason why for the moment, as you say, the range is very small. I'm also thinking on BF Goodrich ALL TERRAIN T/A KO2 in size 255/65 R18. They should be also quite good for winter use. Need to be aware the KO2 speed rating (R=170kmh) is less than the top speed of your vehicle...

According to the BF Goodrich homepage the speed-index of this tyre is S (180 km/h) and in fact I must mount tyres with speed-index H (210 km/h) although the top speed of the Defender 240hp is 185 km/h... so that's a real problem with the KO2's, indeed.

 Click image to enlarge I’ve just put these on my Karoq and they don’t feel any different from the “summer” tyres fitted at the factory. No experience in the snow as yet but SWMBO has used winter Contis on her car for 9 winters and they have been superb on ice and snow.

Contis are never cheap though. I had to replace a 20” CrossContact on my 1st Evoque back in 2011 and even then it set me back >£400, made me thankful I had taken the dealership wheel and tyre insurance as the insurer paid up without hesitation after I sent the photos in. I’ve taken out W&T insurance on every car since but never had to claim again. The Adventures will not be any better, maybe worse, than any non three peak rated all season tire. Due to lack of choices for the 19’s, I got some 20” wheels off eBay and bought some Pirelli winters for my Defender. May switch to Nokian if they ever come out with new sizes, but for now will see how the Pirelli’s do in the next storm. I don’t know Italian laws where you are, but the Adventures wouldn’t qualify for use in most of the Nordic countries where snowflake rated tires are required. Frankly, I wouldn’t trust a two ton truck on snow without at least a three peak rated tire.

Hi, my garage height is 2,20m. I can enter without problems with the original Expedition roof rack (part of the Explorer Pack) mounted on the car. Not of course if it fits also the rooftop tent. Now the roof rack is removed. |
