Help understanding dealer order process, timing experience? | |
Hi all -
I have a question out there to a fellow forum member but they might be away.
I'm trying to determine the process flow for ordering. Example: Dealer puts my configuration into the ordering system, then I heard there is a "lock" date etc. What are the phases and general timing from phase to phase?
I'd put a call into the dealer but they try to hard sell me every time. And then spam call me every day after that
Many thanks! Greatly appreciated. '21 L663 X-Dyn HSE P400 Carpathian

Don't take what I say as gospel, I'm not an insider, just someone who went through the ordering process (and has for several new cars over the past few years) and is familiar with ordering process with other manufacturers.
Your dealer receives allocations that are scheduled to be built at certain times. Once you place your order they will configure one of those allocations to your specification. When they do this there are dates in the computer such as when the vehicle's configuration will "lock", and then when the vehicle will be built, when it will arrive at port and when it will arrive at dealer. These dates may move forward\backward slightly depending on Land Rover corporate. It's ~6 weeks from lock to build and then another ~6 from the build date until it lands at the dealer. How far you are from the port and which port affects the latter. It was 6 weeks for me in the Northeast US. If your dealer doesn't have any build slots available it will take longer.
