I agree with him too. It's the best Land Rover that Land rover has had out since the LR4 went away. I love mine.

Doug DeMuro‘s reviews are always on point (even if his energy can be exhausting to listen to) and he nailed it again here. After recently driving the 2020, I can relate to his viewpoint. Amoungst all the over styled SUV‘s the new Defender does stand out.

I’ve watched a lot of his reviews over the years and I respect him for being unbiased and not swayed by any of the manufacturers. I plan on keeping mine long term as well as I genuinely believe that it ticks all the boxes in terms of practicality, off road ability, and on road driving dynamics and does it better as an overall package than its competitors

You might think so but I get the idea that if you have a rigid one then you have the problem of what to do with it if you are at IKEA or B&Q and decide to bring home some large packages. This one neatly gets around that problem as you simply roll it or fold it and put it in the slot in the tailgate or under the boot floor. It’s not as neat a solution as D3’s had for storing the roller cassette but that didn’t get designed into RRS or FFRR for some reason. There’s also now no problem of failing roller blind mechanisms or rattles from that sort of cover or a rigid one. I was thinking of the D3/4 one as a direct comparison, esp the way it slots in between the 2nd & 3rd row seats. S’pose it’s a first world problem. Agreed re the rigid covers, the one for my Karoq is presently propping up a wall in the kitchen.

My Evoques and the Mini Countryman had quite an elegant solution in that the rigid cover stowed down the back of the rear seat back, between the retaining bars that kept the seats in the upright position and folded flat with the seat backs if you needed the entire load space but then in both cars if the item was heavy you risked damage to the rigid cover unless you could slide it in beside the load. I never use the load cover so at least the Defender one is easier to throw in the cupboard. The 90 even more so.

Probably not, but I see in a review of the new Bronco that Ford are offering steely-a-like alloys that look quite nice too, which Land Rovef could also do. It’s at 4 mins 20ish in this video. The Bronco does look rather like a Freelander 1 Hard Back on Steroids in those photos.

I didn't like the load space cover at first but I've now grown to love it after having to load some large items in the cargo area a few times. The cover easily folds up and can be stored under the cargo floor or just tucked into the storage pockets in the tailgate. I have the hard folding loadspace cover in my L405 and it's never that easy to store it when I need to load large items in the cargo area. Ray 2020.5 Defender 110 P400HSE 2016.5 Range Rover HSE |
