It pays to shop around for insurance I just saved a packet.
This post is not intended to throw scorn on A-Plan insurance who has given me excellent service over the last three years. However, their quote for this year was £680.00 I thought this a bit steep for a mileage of 3000 so I phoned Adrian Flux to see if they could do any better with the price. And they did for exactly the same insurance (classic car) they gave me a quote from Sterling insurance of £209.00 plus £15.00 for the agreed value, one of the reasons for such a low quote is that I received a massive discount for the anti-theft devices I have fitted, which for me was a first.
Removable steering wheel
Parked behind locked gates
Bombproof door devices
Alarm
Tracker
Data tagged
Smart water
Adrenalin Pedal lock
Handbrake lock
Security keyed battery isolator
Krypton cable lock on the bonnet
Immobiliser
Wheel lock
Spare wheel security lock
Sky tag lettering on the roof
To name but a few!
Today I received my agreed value certificate for the amount I specified.
So I am a happy bunny. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Well done with the quote and I fully understand security, but it must take you 1/2 hour just to get into it to drive.

They did along with a report and ten photos of the vehicle..

'Following your application for the Agreed Value to be included on your policy, I can confirm that
your application has been assessed and from the information that you have provided, your
vehicle has been valued at £15000.
Enclosed is your Agreed Value certificate which should be kept in a safe place as this may be
required in the event of a claim.
This Valuation Certificate is valid until the expiry of your policy when you will need to complete
a fresh Agreed Value Application.
Yours sincerely

Hello Gilarion

Interesting going forward you will probably get 3 years insurance for the old price of 1... Thumbs Up

There has been some recent discussion on D2N regarding the pro's and con's of multi car insurance.
I've just renewed with LV, my security list reads like yours, I also listed all modifications with costs,
my Defender cost more to insure than yours but not by that much (it's less than £250) with the difference probably
accounted for agreed value. I also have a second Land Rover and a Toyota on the policy and all for less
than your initial quote.

Now I know other factors come into this, for us all named drivers have 9+ years NCD and our post code places
us in a low category, but as you say good to shop around and make sure... well done Cool

Swine&Small you make a valid observation... it can feel like a pre flight check list when everything is fully deployed
for me I now have around 12 layers over half require no involvement, when I leave mine I always use 2, removable steering wheel + one more, in total this adds seconds (maybe 10) before walking away, but makes me feel much better as although not (never) 100% secure, I know the 'work arounds' required and think currently I'm on the right side of this is too much effort for most. If I deploy more layers (all mechanical) then I can add a few minutes to 'lock-down'. Still happy with this as the get back to where I am time would be huge... if even possible.

Good luck all SKIP

I've just insured with Footman James after a fantastic quote, good cover and also £15 for the agreed value cover too.

I've stuck with A-Plan for the last couple of years as my remap means many insurers won't offer cover.

I wonder if it might have been worth ringing them to see if they could offer you a better deal?

It's a shame we weren't competitive for you this year gilarion and we hope to have you back in future! Thank you for your kind comments of our service Smile it is something we pride ourselves in.

We don't charge for agreed value as it's done directly through the insurer as long as it meets the criteria for it, some companies do charge and this is usually because it's supplied by a third party provider - my advice would be just make sure you're reading the terms if this is the case as some in their terms do say that although it's an agreed value they don't guarantee that figure in the event of the claim (bizarre i know!) - best to double check it.
