Hi Mike
I have a couple of types, the Defender is hooked up full time to a CTEK MXS 5.0 which is now about 3 years old, no issues and the other is a cheap £15 Aldi/Lidl smart charger which looks after the series one. Both work fine hooked up all of the time. The cheap one comes up from time to time on offers. 2010 XS USW 1957 Series One 88 diesel 1958 Series One 88 4x2 |

If you want to go bargain basement, I’ve been using a 4 amp Lidl smart charger with the voltage display from the middle aisle. Works fine, the only thing it really lacks it the deep recovery mode for damaged batteries which the more expensive ones have. It charges my 95ah main battery and my 120ah AGM with no trouble (separately, not at the same time). 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Ctek is highly recommended, the mx05 has a recon function which works brilliantly I had a battery fail and used the recon function which transformed the battery to better than it was new! 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

Recently bought one of these. I cannot really fault it. Voltages and currents displayed match with the actual output.

Just check if you have issues with power cuts. I live in the country and frequently have micro power cuts, sometimes only lasting a few seconds, but enough to put some of the cheaper chargers back into standby mode rather than full trickle/monitoring mode. CTEK chargers seem to "reboot" themselves after such events. |

One more vote for CTEK. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

CTEK, faultless, one of the best charger brands on the market. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..
