Episode 6. It's a short one
Only 3 mins. Anyone know any of the talking heads? Chap from Live Promotions, don't they organise the LRO show? Bloke from Red Winch, not sure about the others.

I think the only bit of new info is that it will be offered with a choice of tyres, which is not exactly earth shattering.

They should take it off until they can get round to installing the proper ones. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

There's actually two vehicles, the full Episode 6 is longer (but still only 7 minutes) whereas the link above is the extended version of the Fireside Chat.

Not a lot of substance to this one -- interesting to see the confirmed choice of 17" or 18" rims. The 17"s are about as big as I'd want to go and would have preferred 16" but the explanation of the brakes makes sense (as that was also the explanation from JRL about going with 18" + wheels on the new Defender)

I found the choice of Bridgestone interesting, but I see they also offer the KO2s as an option instead. I'm glad they are using steel wheels as standard.

Assuming the fellas they had at the fireside chat are like us (i.e. regular folks, not paid endorsers) then I found the comments around the fire to be interesting and aligning with what I hope the Ineos is.

Of greater interest to me was the suggestion that we could be looking at the interior in a "couple of weeks" -- that's pretty soon, and the interior is the next big question and far more important than wheels and tires -- wheels and tires are a $1,000 -$1500 dollar fix, but the interior has to be a nice place to be for touring. I'm hopeful for a simple layout, ample USB power ports in logical places, fully controllable interior lights, a jump seat up front, heated seats front and rear, and climate control in all of the passenger areas. If they can do that, I'll be putting in a pre-order on day-1 (Finances permitted).

I'm curious at the way everyone is now moving away from 16" rims. Not sure I buy the brake disc/package as being the deciding factor. I'd have thought there's plenty of good brake packages available even with a larger engine under the bonnet.

I'm sure there'll be other factors on top of just brake size. But that will be significant given the will be significantly more powerful than anything seen in a factory Defender except for those last of the line V8s.

Other factors may be OEM tyre availability, I'd imagine a lot of tyre makers are not putting that much effort into new designs of 16" SUV tyres. Other thing could be handling to make sure nothing embarrassing happens in a moose test type situation. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Could it be weight? Steel wheels are pretty heavy things. They all have to try and reduce weight to reduce emissions. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Nearly there and it just seems to get better and better. (SWMBO even took an interest 😳). The 17” steel wheels suit it, nice contrast with the silver body colour, I wonder what other colours they have in mind?, but that’s a minor issue. I’m sure the interior will be based on practicality when it emerges. New Defender appears to be disappearing into the mist when compared to Grenadier imho. Do you think some at JLR will be wondering why they hadn't gone down a similar route?
I’d love to own one 👍

I'm not getting excited about it, until firm prices are revealed. I still think this is going to be significantly more expensive than was initially forecast. 2005 Td5 90 XS

I'm looking at it the other way.

The initial forecast price, which to be fair they have not moved away from (as in upwards) must now have a fair degree of float in it. Why? Well now they don't have to factor in a new factory, recruitment, training, etc; and may be off setting running costs again a third party build contract.*

*Assuming Hambach Smartville deal comes off.
