Puma 2.2 Intake to airbox
Lots of very helpful discussion around this one, so I though I would share this afternoons project.
After reading and learning about all what others have done, I bought the "kit" from local business 4x4manufaktur.ch

While at it I shortened the BAS turbo-to-intercooler hose by 20mm on Petes recommendation as it seemed a bit too close to the air box support I also added the LR bracket to hold the hose in place (LR057448)

Super happy with the result: here are some pics. (EDIT: not sure why I can't get photos in order)

Tomorrow I will modify the stock grill to cover it. Should look nice with the stainless piece ever so slightly visible.
Took a quick drive down to fetch some beer and immediately noticed a difference in sound and free breathing.

On a happy side note, I seem to have freed up quite a nice spot for a Provent (it never stops does it Rolling with laughter )

Nice work.

Question: how did you get the bottom part of the air box out. I know you need to pull up and then away from the wing, but I had the refrigerant pipe in the way, and did not want to let the gas out, or go to someone who can recover. Difference to my defender is I have the steering shaft on that side too. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

The best way I have found is this
After removing the top portion and air filter, remove the three bolts in the wheel well that hold the air box to the inner wing. Then move the air box horizontally to release the top two pins. Go under the car and you can reach up and separate the air box from the metal support. You can take the metal support from beneath.
Then go above and it becomes a game of Tetris. It’s easiest without the horrible standard intake pipe, but you can remove the box from above this way without even scratching the ac line. You will have to flex the ac line out of the way when you’re getting close. It should be noted that i was only able to position and remove the air box bottom after I had cut and removed the stock intake strangle-tube. Do this and everything else is easier.
Take your time. Don’t sweat it. Roaming around πŸ‡³πŸ‡΄πŸ‡¨πŸ‡

Just out of curiosity, why did you route the new hose upward rather than from below?

Does the company you ordered that from ship overseas? I was looking to re-do my Nugget intake to air box kit as the one who installed it for me did some things to the adapter box that I wasn't happy with (drilled a hole to route breathers into it then just sealed with copious amounts of sealant)

A friend of mine suggested that rather than go with a box adapter, a direct connection from intake to air box would be much more preferred so this kit you posted has my interest. If it's WAY cheaper than the Nugget solution, I may try this one next.

Thanks.

I went over the blower motor inlet because there is very little room under it. The space under it is the same size and shape as the standard intake tube. I had to unscrew from the wing and remove the blower intake in order to get the old tube out. Smashing the new hose flat and into the shape of the old one seemed a bit counter productive and there was ample room (and length) to go over it.

I did something very similar with my td5, 3D printed a bracket to go on the wing and 100mm hose to the airbox

This morning I tackled the grill. Simple matter of removing the inner "fins" that the standard grill has and drilling corresponding holes in the plastic. In the fender I installed M4 Blindnietmuttern and fastened it all together with stainless M4x20 Philips head machine screws.

Very neat but I'd have to paint the stainless panel black, I'm afraid. Darren

Sure, that would be easy enough. At the moment I kind of like the tease of something out of the ordinary.

But what is bothering me is the bright blue silicon adapter.... Ive already started looking online for a black one. Roaming around πŸ‡³πŸ‡΄πŸ‡¨πŸ‡

Thank you DeeEss for the tip. Not sure if it is easy to remove the metal support as we have the steering box in the way. But will give it a go in case I need to do it again. Reason I needed to remove the air filter was to remove the self tapping screw holding the small cover on top of the inner mudguard to remove the shock absorber/turret assembly. In the end I managed to get access to the screw buy shifting the airbox a bit. I also saw one suggestion on this forum to drill an access hole through the airbox.

As for black silicone reducer, there are plenty available, example :

Hi, thanks for that. Yes there are a lot, and not expensive either. I found one from siliconeshop on eBay that should do the trick. Getting it from the Uk costs a few bucks more, but much faster than waiting on mail from China. Ill update once its received and in.
Cheers,

Oh, OK. I reckon this explains the shape of the Nugget adapter box then. The information is still useful though.

Thanks! Thumbs Up

I opted for a 102mm pipe from airbox to wing top. Covered by a snow cowl. Couldn’t get any more air in, much less restrictive and the same diameter as the airbox inlet.
