I saw that on ExPo, scary.

There's been a few incidents there and i follow the San Miguel County Sheriff on FB, usually first place for news of what's happening there.

Reminds me of the time I was on Llangollen Steps and a mate didn't apply his handbrake.. it built up speed, luckily (VERY LUCKILY) nobody was on the way up!!

Cage was fitted the day before....
EVERYTHING WAS BENT, including the wheels and chassis, axle suspension mounts ripped off, diesel spilled on the hood etc etc.
I was in my old truck with front and rear winches, I managed to get it out of the trail and a mate met us at the bottom with a trailer.

BBP sees quite a number of incidents like that every year, I believe. It is an amazingly busy trail, too.

I have always thought that the video below is one of the more interesting BBP videos, a good warning of how quickly conditions can change on the mountains. I am impressed how quickly the pass was reopened afterwards, I can't see that happening in the UK if something similar happened. It is towards the end that the video gets interesting.

I drove the Black Bear, Hurricane Pass and Engineer Passes in a rental Jeep back in 2014 when the (then) OH was playing with ponys on a ranch.

The potential for danger is pretty high if you're not focussed for a moment. The result was that I didn't take any photos on the Black Bear! But plenty on the Alpine Loop which was more relaxed.

That looks amazing. Think I'd prefer to come down there on my MTB!
Think that's a Defender going up at 25:47

Sounds like an amazing trip - presumably no problem from rental companies with doing those trails?

Although they clearly let you take their Jeeps up to the Bridal Veil Falls (just not down to them).

I just rented a regular Wrangler from a bloke in Pagosa Springs, he said bring it back in one piece. There's loads of tricked up jeeps, local rentals and rental/tours the trails. Would highly recommend any way you fancy doing it. JB
