Is the Expedition Roof Rack noisy?
Hi all

What is the experience here regarding the expedition roof rack?
Is it noisy?
Does it in any way interfere with the panoramic sunroof?

Its weird i find it a bit noisy around 50/60mph but over 70mph its fine lol i use it all the time its not too noisy and doesn’t interfere with the sunroof

Had an SE for an extended test drive on Friday. My phone was synced with the car but the wifes wasn't. At motorway speeds she struggled to hear the other person on the call.
We were calling all the local dealerships to find a 110 hardtop to look at but there are none to be seen at the moment 110 D250 SE HT

Book in for the 90/Hard Top preview, they are touring the Uk dealerships at the moment. I’m going to my dealer next Saturday to view the 90, both hard top models will be there.

Did that, booked into Guy Salmon Bristol. Turned up, they had the 90 hardtop there but no 110 hardtop. Called Melksham LR as well. They didn't have the 110 version either.
Taunton did say there was no 110 roadshow as there is for the 90.
I'm not going to part with best part of £50K without seeing the car first. But I did have an extended testdrive in a First Edition on Fri. Lovely to drive and nice seating position but this wasn't the new 3L engine so the drive will be a tad different.
Plus I'm not sure on the tarif for a commercial vehicle after Dec31st. That might make it to expensive as well 110 D250 SE HT

It's absolutely fine.

All roof racks are noisier than without (especially ones with predominantly lateral bars) but it's not an issue.
I have roof rack, ladder, side box, RAI and All Terrain tyres. They all add to more noise than my very refined D5 but not enough to interfere with radio, phone, conversations, driving experience.

If you want utility, buy a Defender, add a roof rack and anything else you can bolt to it and enjoy it.
If you want refinement and minimum NVH, buy a Lexus and be smug in silence. Thumbs Up One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

Thanks. Really just wanted to know how they did controlling the noise from the rack given that it’ll be up there all the time even though I’ll actually use it just on longer overland trips. I think we all get it that the defender is for utility, but given that these accessories aren’t really needed for most people most of the time, it’s nice to know at least that they don’t make normal road use of the car unbearable. I remember the days of the Thule square bars when you absolutely had to have a fairing or you’d go out of your mind on the highway. The Defender rack looks like it’s made by Thule with their aero bars as slats, which is great because those are some of the most quiet bars out there.

Exactly GreenMonster

The way the Expedition Rack is mounted on the Defender, it will most likely stay put for the life of the car.

According to the PowerfulUK install video on YouTube they think it would be quite feasible to de-mount it as it isn’t too heavy for two people to manhandle it if you didn’t want to drive around with it on all the time

I have the crossbars and they are only noisy if I tilt up the rear of the glass roof panel as the front bar sits over it, full open there is no windnoise from it.
 Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

It's not loud but you can tell it's up there. 6 bolts to remove it and you'll want a hand as it's heavy.

Edit: 12 bolts to remove

Is it not more than 6 bolts shawnpalmer?

One can not just loosen the bolts nearest to the roof and slide the rack loose.
Because the "cubs" that fasten the grid slide in opposite directions, don't they?
So a total dismantle is the order of the day, right?

Well, I like the looks of the rack, so I guess it will be part of the picture indefinitely.

Sorry, it’s 12 nuts total,6 per side. 6 T Plates securing it with 2 bolts each. You take off the 12 nuts securing the rack to the slide in plates and then lift the rack straight up. Set the rack off to the side and then slide the plates out through the slots in the rails. Very easy with help to lift it off.

I’ve had mine on and off a few times.
