Just tried a start and got the click of death. Whack the Dash. Started! Hmmm maybe it is the dash connector solder joints....

sounds like starter motor solenoid. Cheers

Except that whacking the dash appeared to clear the fault... will keep trying this to see if it's repeatable. If it is, then it's the dash soldering... |

I would start with the basics.

It's a solder issue on the instrument cluster (like your Ford - similar problem).
