My defender was due to go back in last week for a bunch of faults and that would of been the second time. Suppose it’s annoying but it’s minor faults with a new system. Also annoyed that I couldn’t get a courtesy car and then had to cancel my car going in because I needed a car that day for work but wanting to return a car because you wouldn’t wait 3 weeks is extreme. Also complaining about a brand new car devaluing is confusing.

Understand the frustration with faults, been there done it. MY updates though, you make the choice to jump first. LR have done it for years, launch with one engine and switch to a new one at the next MY. Disco Sport, Disco 5 both had engine changes at the next model year.
One thing though, LR did state that any of the packs, adventure, explorer etc would be included in the residual value of the car. |

Mr Eleven, not really... it was another 3 weeks on top of the 2 months of ownership! Also the point of devaluation on a new vehicle is one on my part and is based on conjecture of the loss being attributed (in my opinion) to the engine change. I was venting and explaining my own personal experience and in doing so helping (or informing ) owners or other would be owners. Comments on the post are welcome and of course free speech is everyone's right BUT I wasn't looking for a phsychological insight of my patience

So after you told them about the faults they gave you a date to fix these 11 weeks later ? If thats right then yes thats way too long.

I had raised the query in the past but was hopeful of an Over The Air update to fix the problem, I should have asked them to fix it sooner..

Grief...I think, rather sadly, it's the modern way of things...mostly, we have more material things than our parents & grandparents which brings more grief...the less we have the less we have to have hassle over.
I shouldn't have ignored my Dad's advice & sold the Series 1...beautiful in it's simplicity! 496 NRF...wish I still had her now. Since 1973...S1, Air Portable's, Defender's, but only my Wolf TUL HS GS remains |

Depreciation ?
Its interesting the configurator offered only £42K. When I put my 5 year old Defender 90 Landmark in it offers me over £44K. Also when you hit the tab for local dealer price for new they are over £1K less than configurator price. |

I think the decision to move exclusively to the six cylinder MHEV diesel is most likely to be driven by the draconian EU CO fleet average rules, which all manufacturers are struggling to meet. In the artificial official tests it is likely that the MHEV engine will perform better that the standard two litre, even though in everyday use it will most likely be worse, as the extra torque will be used since it is there at the end of your right foot. It's a bit galling to have an engine change so soon, but I doubt if the depreciation will be affected to any great extent given that second hand new defenders are likely to be in great demand for some years to come.

I don’t see myself and the ownership of my Defender as part of the JLR brand in the commercial sense. I do in the green-oval, t-shirt wearing, mug owning sense, but not in any other sense. I haven’t bought from JLR, dealt with a dealership, customer services, servicing (do it myself), repaired or replaced parts (I buy almost uniquely after market). I see myself as a Defender owner and part of the Defender heritage/family, which is the main reason I so dislike the New Defender as it’s ignored that almost entirely (so it’s not I dislike the car, it’s the brand it claims to be a part of). So my ‘loyalty’ is to the Series/Defender family, not 21c JLR per se. Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

Mine has been in and out of the dealer like a yo-yo. Two members at my golf club asked me about my experience as they were thinking of getting one - no longer.
