Brakes, steering wheel and grey smoke from engine!!

What a scary experience. Whilst driving along a day after getting my 110 back from the garage after an oil gasket replacement (messy oil and coolant mixing together and entire engine requiring flushing), smoke starts coming out of the engine, there is a burning smell, brakes seize (so cannot stop) and steering wheel seizes so cannot steer. Not a good combination as slowing down towards a red light.

How frightening and a cause of a potential nasty accident. What could be going on? Brake calipers replaced, full service completed, new tires. What could now possibly be wrong. I am getting fed up at this point.

Any ideas experts?

Sounds more likley the engine stopped first, at thie point you will loose any brake servo assistance and also power steering hence the issues you mention......

Or your engine died or there was something wrong with the ancillary belt so your Alternator and Steering pump stopped working.
This could be one off the pulley bearing that block or one off the Ancillaries. The burning smell can come from the belt. But I think if you open the bonnet you will easily see that. Roel

Ok, I was worried it was the new brake calipers siezing which they shouldnt have done being new. Thanks.

I would say something has siezed causing the belt to slip (burning smell) and therefore stop turning the power steering pump (heavy steering) and altenator (loss of vaccum pump and so no servo assistance).

Were there any warning lights on the dash when this happened? If battery charge light only then its likely to be belt related. If oil light came on as well then the engine might have stopped. 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon
