Brilliant, that worked and problem solved. I’d been holding the power button down but hadn’t realised it needed 20 seconds. Many thanks!

The radio power button can be used as well (unless that's what you're referring to). Hold for 15 seconds and it triggers a reboot which takes a couple of minutes.
I've had no critical failures for key functions but there are various small software bugs and one or two more persistent issues. Mine has encountered: 1) Clock is often an hour out - rectified by toggling "auto update" off and on within time settings 2) 360 cameras occasionally fail to initialise - usually solved after restarting. Note, reverse camera is always available so it's only the others that are affected 3) Failure to resolve apple car play and bluetooth phone connection. This seems odd to me as it's not new functionality. 4) InControl phoned me to tell me it had been stolen - whilst I was driving it. Odd: only happened once. 5) Stuck in "dark mode". Resolved after 15s reset. Some of these glitches are irritating, some more so than others. All can be expected in a new system (and will be resolved with OTA updates) but they do play on your mind - wondering which bit will stop working. Of course we can all bitch about quality control and testing but remember that even Apple usually takes 3 or 4 service pack updates to resolve issues after new software release. I made LR aware of all my issues and the conditions surrounding them - let's face it, we're their first group of long term, real world testers. Maybe we should be cataloguing here, so we can feed back useful data to their developers. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

Reported theft of vehicle while driving it - I had this and the dealer applied an update and I haven’t had any phone calls from the InControl Centre since., unfortunately the service report doesn’t say exactly what they did to resolve the problem. I wonder what criteria the vehicile uses to decide whether it is stolen as opposed to being used by the legitimate owner?
I also wonder if, now it is "fixed", it will still report a genuine theft. Hopefully you'll never find out. |

This is the Special Service Message that addresses the false theft alerts, sorry about the poor formatting:

So someone had the not unclever idea that if the system diagnoses the GPS antenna being disconnected, it was someone up to no good and so triggers the theft protocol. I'd be asking if the software revision just removes the DTC from the parameters that trigger the theft protocol or addresses the issue of the DTC itself?

I suffered the “stealth” black screen of “I don’t want to play” yesterday while off-road and if I hadn’t known about the “press the radio on/off button for 20 seconds” I would have been really stuck as I had switched of the engine while out helping somebody else and suffered the black screen on start up after that. When you switch off the engine the TR defaults to Comfort/Highway on start up and if you want to use a program you have to reset it and any changes you have made to the configuration if you have the configurable TR2. You have no access to any of the TR or (if you have them) confirgurable settings for the TR if you don’t know about the reset process.
OK I wouldn’t have been totally, totally stuck because I could still drive the car with only low ratio selected as that isn’t controlled from the infotainment screen, but it was embarrassing as I had a passenger who is very sceptical about the reliability of all the modern Land Rovers. Suffice to say that he was suitably impressed that it was such a simple fix but what impressed him even more was how easily and comfortably the car handled the terrain we were driving - a very rough, very steep wet grass and rotten leaf covered track with a huge slab of smooth rock to negotiated half way up the hill after a hairpin bend. The smooth ride and the way the torque is delivered even down at 1700rpm in low 3rd and 4th ( no point in shifting up to high box as 4th low is still only half way through the 8 available forward low ratios!) climbing back up the hillside. One thing I have noticed is how much smoother and quieter the HDC is in this car compared to my last 7 HDC equipped cars, no clicking and grunting from the ABS in fact I had to check the dash icon was stil illuminated a couple of times to see if it was still engaged! Also the Hold function on the brakes and low traction launch control make for a totally fuss free pull away on a challenging surface. Just a pity that the options to use them are buried so deep in the layers of the menues Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come 2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Milkman - My woes include low battery warnings, touchscreen blank, emergency braking/warning not working, service information not working, whistling from A pillar, odd sounds from windscreen (creaking and something sand hitting it), missing locking wheel nut adapter, media USB dropping off. Back to the dealer twice and going back again. And very annoyed they have ditched the 4 cylinder diesel after just a few months - just a con on the early buyers as LR will have planned the replacement ages back but chose to keep it quite; a good value trade in offer should be made; the D240 is no more than adequate.

I can more than feel for your frustration - in fact I sold mine back - but I won't let it go!
A complaint I am afraid and a very big one…. We have been forced (on the 10th of September) to sell our Defender xxxxxxxxxxx Landrover and have incurred a loss of circa £10,000 in doing so. We had owned the Defender for just over 2 months and covered 1900 miles. The reasons for the return were two fold, details of which I will go into as we progress.. 1/ A failure from new on various systems, NO Sat Nav, NO Weather App, No Fixed Camera Warnings, Lane assist which would come on whenever it chose and would turn the steering wheel EVEN when travelling in a straight line, a system that thinks the National Speed limit is 117mph. Auto High Beam & Adaptive cruise control which would just switch off as when it felt like….. and other related faults etc, etc. It is fair to say that xxxxxxx Landrover were not given the chance to repair our Defender, the soonest they could collect the vehicle would have been the 30th of September, this was unacceptable after spending circa £60,000 on a new vehicle…. 2/ The decision by JLR to not only introduce the 6 cyl 3.0 engines (which as advancement is fair enough) but at the same time to delete my 4 cyl 2.0 engine option thus immediately devaluing my Defender in any future sale.. Why was the 4 cyl 2.0 engine discontinued, there will be a reason and if you don’t know can you find out….. I need compensating for my total loss (a credit voucher will suffice) to enable me to purchase another LR used vehicle, without which I will never set foot into another JLR dealership.. and an apology from ALL parties…. |

Sounds like you had a mare with the electrickery.
Why did you choose to sell rather than getting them to fix? WARNING. This post may contain sarcasm. |

Frustration and the reality that a car I had paid nearly 60k for, was failing.... the final nail was the engine change....... it's like being told you have just bought the very best TV out there BUT 2 months later they discontinue it 😪😪😪....
The final insult was that the Landrover garage have it readvertised for a 6k profit and although they had no-one available to collect it for the repairs until the 30th of Sept, they managed to collect it upon the sale the day after....!!! |
