Time was when that sort of conversion was commonplace and you wouldn't think twice about doing it. Hard to imagine now, in fact it's hard to imagine doing that even to a SII or SIII now.
That's something else you won't be able to do with the new Defender!  |

I'm sure in time someone will look to engineer in a chassis for tired new Defenders or subframes for live axles. It may not be the most compelling of commercial propositions but someone out there will give it a bash.

I’ve had Series Ones all my driving life and while this one pictured doesn’t do anything for me there are plenty of restored and original vehicles around, so if someone wants to modify their S1 well that’s fine by me, there is room for everyone in the Series One World, it’s their vehicle after all.

Completely agree, it's theirs to do with what they want. I may not like what someone's done to something they own, but I will defend their right to do it.
If it was an artefact of national historic importance that would be different, of course. (I don't like what Landrover has done to the Defender brand, but it is their right to do it)! |
