Rear Prop Shaft
Given that the car is now 1 year old, does this look right:

It seems far to rusty for me Mike

That could be the effects of a cold winter and lots of salt grit.

I suggest putting her up on a couple of ramps and jet washing underneath and then slapping a bit of waxoyl (perhaps diluted) on those bits that concern you.

I watched an old Series 1 ad on Youtube the other day and they claimed that as it was made predominantly of aluminium, that it "would never rust". As a lawyer, i'm waiting with anticipation for an American to sue Land Rover for that comment - there aren't many series ones in America though. There's a guy on LR Addict from Canada, but they're virtually British, so at least still have some element of rational thought left!

If im honest it was like that before the winter - its the first time ive been under it since October.

Your right it needs something.

Rest of the car is nicely covered - im tempted to get the dealer to do the prop shaft as it shouldnt be like it im gathering. I just cant be bothered to take it in.

Your correct about the rust...i think that there will be a fair few 07/08/09 defenders with major rust from those who havent protected underneath Mike

Sorry but it looks like your average propshaft to me - they only have a light coat of paint at the best of times, I've yet to have one that didn't start to rust at some stage.

If you have been through long grass with it the prop turns about 3.5 times every time the wheels turns and it will rub the paint off it. Mine almost looks polished after running through long stubble fields.
