Replacing door mirrors - required parts
Am I likely to need additional parts (eg bolts, seals, washers etc.) when replacing door mirrors on a 2004 90?

Any tips on the process would be appreciated. I've seen suggestions about jacking-up the door, but also instructions to keep the door closed.

Also, is it likely to be a difficult job, with seized bolts etc.?

I think I'm going to buy a pair of Britax OEM mirrors rather than cheaper aftermarket ones - I've read that some, such as Britpart, can be a bit rubbish (twisting and vibrating).

The complete mirror - head and arm. The arms are white, and the mirrors have lost part of their mirror coating!

When i change my door mirror's ( 1996 300Tdi ) i take the door card off as i find it easier to hold the spanner on the nut inside with the window wound down when the door is shut, undo and change the complete mirror and then put it all back together, when i have finished i open and shut the door a few times to make sure the lines are okay, if not, then adjust so it's right Thumbs Up 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

I haven't got around to it yet, but hopefully I'll be able to order the mirrors later today.

No worries there but i did forget to say that don't put the door card on until you have made sure that the shut lines are all okay Very Happy 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

I've found it easier to have the door partly open resting on something (I used a bin) with the window open as you'll need to remove the top hinge completely. The bolts were pretty straightforward on mine- no seizing - I actually did it leaving the door card on and just removing some of the plastic fasteners to get to the nuts on the inside- however as mentioned would probably be best to take it off for ease.

Definitely agree with buying quality mirror arms and mirror head. It's one of the most frustrating things when the head keeps bending down at speed- Mine had Unitruck one when I bought it and they kept moving. Keswick green 2007 Defender 90 TD5

Yes! Definitely buy genuine ones (made by Britax). Aftermarket ones are rubbish. I bought a pair of doors that had cheap ones already fitted (I didn't notice at the time) . The arms wobbled at speed and I folded them in once whilst parked and after that they freely rotated on the pivot 180° Rolling Eyes

Fitted the original arms off my old doors and they've been perfect again since Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon
