. I was thinking, that would not make the journey I just did? how long do they take to fill up.... I would be slightly worried where the next charge point is. There didn't appear to me much of anything on the West side...

The long term solution IMHO is not EV - hydrogen fuel cells make more sense longer term.
For those with a 'keen sense of green' you need to remember that the current CO2 output of the electricity grid across Europe would need a modest 60kwh electric car to do 435,000 miles to beat the same 'average' petrol car of equivalent performance - the disposal and processing of the batteries is a Hazmat nightmare currently. http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/industry...c-vehicles Rgds. There will be a tipping point, though. Like lots of things, fossil fuel production and distribution only really works at scale and the fewer cars that need it, the more expensive it will become. Anyway, I drove a D240 First Edition at the local dealer yesterday for half a day and really enjoyed it. I drove there in my Bowler tweaked 90 so had a direct comparison, and to my sadness  there isn't any comparison at all.
It's like comparing a Classic Mini with a latest BMW Mini, or an E-Type with an F-Type, or a VW Beetle with perhaps a VW Golf - they are simply different vehicles from different eras. The new 'Defender' is quiet, quick, smooth, comfortable, light and airy, well equipped, great 'tech' materials on the seats and dash, really good new 'PIVI' (whatever that is) infotainment. Not all of the details work for me, particularly the contrived plastic chequer plate dotted around the interior and exterior. Rear 3/4 blind spot is quite large, not because of the coloured panel, but the rear headrest position. Overall its a highly competitive offer in it's price bracket and everything you'd want if in the market for a 5/7 seat 'premium' 4x4. If I was in the market for this type of product it would be high up on my list, but if I wanted to replace my real Defender, I'd do that with another #realDefender 
I drove back from the dealer having a lot of fun, irritating my passenger with the ride and wind noise thinking that the only thing in common is the name and I still love it, like I love my smelly flatulent dog who sleeps on my old coat.  2015 90 XS SW Bowler

They are completely different other than the naming convention and for good reasons.

Well it was my turn today to get behind the wheel. Dealer experience was great, no sales pressure applied just tell us what you think. Apart from a pit stop on the drive to play with the features I drove it most of the afternoon. just over 1000 miles on the clock and I nudged it just past 1100 when returned I liked it and reminded my of my D2 which is the point really, not really comparable to my 110xs USW. Still no idea what the box on the side is for apart from blocking the rear vision!

Only in a study sponsored by big oil with dodgy assumptions - I woudl be interested to see the study you are quoting to see if it has obvious dodgy nonsense in there (eg, I had a BMW i3 and the factory is carbon neutral using wind and solar [I think] to power it, not the grid, which is dirty in Germany since they closed the nuclear plants). And I have a wind turbine and will be getting solar - and the UK grid is in any event well below the Europe average (which is itself a nebulous term!). Id did see something saying that Poland is a bit of a disaster for dirty electricity. We didn't use the iPace for our holiday on west coast Scotland - the charger reviews were all pretty poor for the few rapid chargers around Oban, but with hindsight if the holiday house had had a 7kw charger for overnight use we would have been fine, doing less than 120 miles on any one day and only needing a charge somewhere on the way up and on the way back down (we stopped for lunch anyway). there are sometimes issues though - it's not as easy in a non-Tesla as a Tesla |

 If you are coming to Scotland in an EV then you can register in advance for a Charge Point Scotland RFID card that cost £20 pa for any CPS charger, unlimited usage. Oop-North, do you use the ZappMap or PlugShare apps to find chargers? In the two years running a PHEV as much as possible in EV mode I found CPS improved their charger repair service 100% - chargers were rarely out of service more than 24 hours after a fault was reported. Also they are now replacing a lot of their network with 150kw chargers so cars that can do 100kwh charger shoukd be able to recharge while you are shopping/ having lunch/dinner
One of my neighbours has just obtained planning permission to build an office/workshop beside the Main Street in the village (which is a conservation area) and one of the three conditions of consent was that as he has 6 car parking spaces at least 4 spaces must be accessible to an EV charging point! Our district council is also converting one of the car parks on the edge of town into a Low Emissions / EV charging hub at the same time as replacing the 6 old 22kwh chargers already there with superchargers. Yes, i have a CYC card (just renewed it for a year in fact) that covers CPS, thanks. I use WattsUp to find chargers but then Plugshare is good to check on them because it has reports of recent use - I always logged into that for all public charges in the i3. I haven't managed to get a CPS rapid to work on the iPace yet - only tried one to be fair (Ionity at Gretna does the job reliably and i can usually get back to gretna from Gretna via Edinburgh in one go - the depths of winter is a challenge especially when the normal (shortest) route across from Moffatt is closed and you don't find out until ten miles into it...) which was supposed to be the most reliable one - at Abington, but it was totally broken when i tried. Have also had 50% failure rate on the recently installed 7kW CPS chargers at my daughter's first year halls. My wife and daughters don't like the delays for charging so have been a bit limited - and also spoiled / co red by the Ionity chargers at Gretna. Good job there is a Jaguar app that gives me a fixed £8.80 cost because they are now 69p per kWh unless you have an affiliated manufacturer card (Audi, VW, Porsche) Will need to look more widely in Scotland (she has five years to go) but the corridor to / from Edinburgh has been the main target so far. If they could just move the Ionity chargers from Gretna to Abington i would be a very happy chap! Ecotricity is useless... Tim |

So far I’ve not heard anythng complimentary said about Ecotricity and it’s Electric Highway - seems most of the time it doesn’t work even for Ecotricity customers..... Theres no advantage in being an ecotricity customer other than a lower charging cost. To be fair, it apparently works quite well on the Chademo option so Nissan Leaf drivers are usually OK

Back on topic again, I’ve booked myself in this Friday for a test drive. Now I’ve not done anything like this before so forgive me for my ignorance but is there anything I need to take with me or make sure I’ve got? The dealer didn’t mention anything in particular other than my drivers license.

Hi I went yesterday, you do need your NI number even though nothing on the invite said so as they check your details as well as via DVLA. I signed nothing at all, they just handed me the keys to a £55k car and said go enjoy yourself - I did. 2010 XS USW
