Would I buy a Bronco over a Defender? YES YES YES YES and YES who wouldn't. I wonder could you import one?

You’d be able to import one. State 51 Autos I think their called in Essex import the American pick up trucks, so I’d imagine they will get the Bronco eventually.
Must admit if it was available in the uk I’d certainly be tempted. |

His figures on the load space can’t be right surely?? How does a vehicle of similar proportions have over twice the luggage capacity?? I think he needs to go over his research as I think ford has included the seat space in its figures.

Your right Tim, a quick check has found the defender has up to a 1946L capacity with the seating area. This is either extremely shoddy fact checking or a deliberate attempt to make the defender seem worse. I’m nit picking really because the bloke irritates me anyway

Well regardless of his facts the Bronco is a better design and Ford obviously listened to what the buying public wanted. Land Rover obviously DIDN'T and built what McGovern believes a Defender should be which in fact is the polar opposite.

I think that the main market difference between the the Bronco and the Defender is something as simple as use.
By that i mean look at the UK and the US buying markets. UK on the whole buy vehicles via PCP contracts, the vehicle is not theirs. The leasing company expects the vehicle to be returned in (almost) as new condition or the owner can finance the outstanding amount until it is paid off. Generally not a good idea in the UK due to the fact that the depreciation is greater than the value of the vehicle against any outstanding finance. Any offroading / bramble rash just adds to the depreciation of the vehicle and not a badge of honour. In the US. The majority of vehicles are bought via personal loans. the vehicle is theirs. this means that the owner is free to use the vehicle as they wish, modify it as they wish. In the US they have a bigger fabricating industry than we have, when the JL and then the Gladiator were released the aftermarket was ready to upgrade brand new vehicles and the owners ready to hit the trails. Look at Britpart here, they have just started to advertise steel winch bumpers for the Discovery 3,that was released in 2004! I believe the US aftermarket will be all over the Bronco and will have products ready very shortly after its release to the public. That public is not afraid to offroad their rigs. Will we see the likes of Devon 4x4 bring out a range of upgrades for the New Defender, I think not, for the reasons i have given above. Will the US market fabricators work their magic on the New Defender State side, again i think not because of the limited market and that the big money is with Jeep and soon Bronco Oh, forgot to mention air suspension and the lack of a 35 inch tyre, Americans like their big tyres..... |

LHD is quite usable in the UK. You need to learn a different technique to turn left at a T-junction. Overtaking requires a different thought pattern. And carpark ticket machines and drive-thru's are not as easy. The rest of the time it is no problem though. |

Not knocking the bronco by any means, I really like it, and ford certainly seems to have done its lineage justice, I also really like the defender, not for a replacement for any of my original defenders as I don’t think anything will, but for the vehicle it is. As I said, was just nit picking the journalism not the vehicles. |

i drove a RHD car in Germany for 3 1/2 years when stationed there.. so was use to the approach of looking down the near side to judge overtaking opportunities and hazards A number of articles that made it plain Ford were not catering for those markets, so it will likely have to be the personal or specialised importers route. Be interesting whether Ford franchises would service them? I remember when Nissan Skylines in the UK were only grey imports, their dealers would not touch them. In Australia any LHD vehicle has to converted to RHD if they are under 15 years old, so only classics can retain LHD, so it will be a costly exercise in this market, the Bronco faces stiff competition from the the likes of Nissan and Toyota.. i would suspect a few enthusiasts will bring them in and convert them.. but the Landcruiser and Patrol will continue to reign supreme.. yet another pommie bar steward down under MY20 110 P400 SE Defender MY10 3.0 RR Sport |

One big deterrent to importing a LHD car into the U.K. is the cost to insure it and getting parts. I’m sure that Bronco in the U.K. will become another huge hit with premier league footballers and successful rap artists like the Caddy Escalade and the Ford Raptor pick-up have. People whose monthly salary is 2 or 3 times most people’s annual salary means that huge insurance premiums don’t bother them.
