thank you very much for that.
I'm guessing (although it's not entirely clear to me) that it's saying I won't be going to Ireland after all thank you. |

My folks are out there now and have had no issues. If you're going the Atlantic Way route, At the bottom, definitely take a look around Gougane Barra. We've stayed there and in the vicinity for many years. The forest drive is a brilliant place to drive through (only get access if you are a hotel resident or know them well). It has its own national park status.

Get up early and drive through the Gap of Dunloe just outside Killarney. You need to be 9am ish or there are too many tourist horse carts or loads of walkers. There are also a couple of passes on the way to the end of the Dingle peninsular.
Get out and see The Burren national park to the north of co. Clare. Recommend to stay at Mount Vernon near Flaggy Shore. Great pub just down the road for very fresh sea food. Roads perfect for a defender. 40-50 mph max. Great driving and scenery. |

We went over a few years ago across to Galway and Connemara. The scenery is stunning and if you drive out from Galway towards Roundstone Harbour (Monty Hall filmed a show there featuring a 110) along the coast is a great run with some lovely beaches. Look out for one called Dog bone bay or similar - it was almost like being in the Caribbean as the sea was so blue, and the sand so white.
As for B&B's, we used a voucher scheme which included ferries. I can't find the original company, but if you have google for B&B vouchers there seem to be several schemes. The beauty of this was that you bought your vouchers, booked your first B&B before leaving home, then as you travelled around, the Landlady of your current B&B would ring ahead and book the next one for you. They would also be happy to advise of where to stay etc. https://www.bandbireland.com/pages/gift-vouchers We found this cracking little brewery in Dublin on the way home! That is one very good looking Series One. I'm quite partial to the product of that particular brewery. Next time you are over, make your way up to Donegal. We have a house up near Dunfanaghy and there are miles of tracks in the hills around us where you can spend a quiet afternoon without much chance of meeting anyone. You will also find some of the best beaches in Europe - Donegal - god's own county!!

Have you got any provisional dates yet?
I'm based in Galway and would love to do a meet and a road run that might perhaps tie in with some of your journey. Lots of scenic routes between Galway City and Connemara and up as far as Achill in Co. Mayo. Let us know when you are coming west! |
