Ok all done.
Gone slightly lightly off piste - the 'Provent' is aneBay copy. After lots of research it appears to me that the internet scaremongering has no foundation when used on a TDCi. The standard system on a Defender without any catch can arrangement is a 19mm hose that goes from the rocker cover to the airbox - end of. Using a 'Provent' simply adds a reservoir between the rocker cover and the airbox - it cannot be 'pressurised' in any way since 1) it is simply a reservoir in an 'open to atmosphere' hose, and, 2) the 'Provent' has a valve in the cap which prevents any overpressure in the first place. The vent has been run through the wheel arch liner with a quarter turn valve next to the brake hose. Will keep updating as use clocks up. Nice one. Presumably the intake is sealed all the way to the RAI.

The Provent (or equivalent) will be below atmospheric pressure, it cannot be pressurised except under fault conditions such as severe piston blow-by (when you would have much more pressing concerns).

Just an update on the Provent Copy - done nearly 3000 miles without any issues and drained it today, less than an egg cup full of mostly clear liquid. Rgds. Chris |

Yeah but what did it taste like?
Seriously though, I’m surprised it’s mostly clear! I was expecting a dark oily residue from the crankcase. If it’s just condensation and moisture coming through and back into the intake, maybe it’s nothing to be that concerned about? The nugget stuff however looks ace and it certainly on the list of things to do! |
