I'm looking to replace my carpets with rubber mats and just found out about the retention bars through LRWorkshop.
The plan was to apply dynamat since it doesn't absorb water and deteriorate then rubber mats on top of that as I've been know to have water inside the truck every now and then Carpets are kind of a pain to dry out especially in the field and during rainy season here in Asia Pacific region. Watching this with interest so I can plan & buy accordingly |

I’m presuming you’re talking about the independent rubber mats, one for each footwell and one long one for the passengers?
If so, you can have both carpet and the rubber mats on top, just like in a standard car. Carpets Should be fixed with the retention bars and then the rubber mats placed on top to protect the carpet from muddy feet. If you drive daily and have clean, urban feet, feel free to take them out. Only the carpet should be retained by the bars. If, on the other hand, you’re talking about the large, moulded rubber matting that covers the seat boxes, transmission tunnel, etc, then it would be odd to have that as well as the carpet. Normally one or t’other. If you have both, you decide whether you want carpet or mats. Carpet tends to make the vehicle quieter, moulded matting is easier to clean and better if you’re using it in areas where you expect a lot of mud/water ingress during usage. Ahh thanks for all the replies guys! Yeh it’s the standard carpets with the standard defender branded mats.
After checking though, my carpets reach past the carpet retention bolts so I’ve just left them overlapping the retainers. Seems strange though that they are longer, they are exmoor brand ones from 2013. Another silly question, do the rubber mats go over or under the door struts? |

Yeh the carpets seem a little unnecessary. I’d ideally like to take all mine out, fit soundproofing and then fit a rubber version of the carpeting kit, if it exists I mean. |
