No spare wheel
Hi, I am new here but owned an RRS for 5 years which we are looking to change for a Defender 90 (if you can ever get one!)

One concern we have is re the side opening tailgate and the spare wheel. A regular journey for us means we reverse into a spot but there are bollards behind. We are worried about opening the tailgate with a bollard there? Also the spare wheel makes the car even longer and will be rarely used by my wife!!! How does the car look with it off?

I will have many more questions so sorry in advance and thanks you.

Lol!

Doesn't help much taking it off then!! The size of the car makes those discs look small too.

If you are going for a 90 it shouldn’t be an issue but 110’s are longer than many standard parking places anyway.
Unlike the lifting tailgate cars from LR the Defender’s parking cams don’t give you a graduated distance back from the bumper that you can safely park to open the tailgate.
With the tail gate open fully the spare doesn’t stick out more than you would need to open the driver’s door to get in and out too.
If you want I can try parking up in the car park in the next village and get you some photos of the 110 situation with the tailgate open and how much the driver’s door has to clear things to get in and out. I’m lucky that the park and ride I use has extra long slots for long cars and mobile homes/ RV’s - sorry for the Iphone photo I must learn to use landscape mode not portrait!

Thanks Tim, we interacted on the RRS forums and I always knew you would come back to a JLR product from your Mini!!!

The 110 is just too big for us and one reason we are changing the RRS. My wife tended to use a little run around Kia we had for the kids to use instead of the RRS due to worrying about size in modern car parks etc! The 90 is much shorter at least and she still wants to sit up high and feel protected. Hence 18000 miles in our RRS in 5 years. But she loves the car and wants to stay with JLR (our dealer seems a good one too).

We are looking at the Defender 90 D240 HSE vs the Evoque P300E. Sadly none are available for many months to look at and I have to return the RRS in October as it is worth much less than the PCP FGV. I was very unimpressed by the offer from the dealer.

I was going for the 110 then I changed to 90 because it’s more compact now I’m back to the 110. For me the 90 is too much of a compromise, access to the rear seats, poor luggage space, rear seats don’t fold flat etc. Access to the rear would be made easier by adding air suspension but then we’re getting up to 110 prices.

The 90 is the better looking though! I’ve seen the 90 commercial in the flesh and it looked great.

I agree completely. i would prefer a 5 door but we definitely want a smaller car and our kids have left home now so we have less need for passengers in the back. The seats folding flat is something I want to look at when a car is eventually available.

I am hoping for about then too so I can order for March 1st. My salesman suggested November to see one.

I quite like them but my wife doesn’t. We like our local Kia dealer so. It ruled it out but as we have to do 330 mile journeys occasionally I am not sure about fully electric just yet. Next car after this maybe.

We still like JLR amazingly so at the moment it is an Evoque P300E or Defender 90 D240 HSE.

I think the new Evoque looks absolutely stunning inside and out. They do a full plug in hybrid in the new Evoque now too Sold the Puma Defender and bought a brand new Pangea Green 2020 Defender D240 S with a few factory extras!

Yes that is the P300E with a 1.5 litre engine and 300hp combined. Available in Disco Sport and Evoque sometime soon!
