The on road bit will be a legal and liability angle I think. Whilst on road recovery can go wrong there is a lot more opportunity for incidents and personal injury off road. I can totally get why they don't want to get into that, the manual would be a foot thick if they had to cover off road recovery scenarios to a suitable standard just warn people its on road and that any other use could result in personal injury and leave it at that. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

I see your point, but the same could be said of off road driving. Imagine, if to cover the same legal liability JLR said the vehicle had been designed for on road driving only?

You can't have your cake and eat it, if it's the best off road vehicle in the world, then it needs recovery points designed for use off road and JLR need to stand behind that.

rock and a hard place with elements like this, your right but I to do it they bring up H&S for straps, shackles and load ratings and might even have to supply proper training to the customer. i wonder if the winch states not for off road use now that would be interesting, or does it disclaimer stating customers must have appropriate training.

I can hear my legal team work asking me what my risk appetite is Laughing 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

Any mention of the exposed rear towing eyes/loops?

I think I've found the source of the original wording - they cut & pasted the words from the old Defender Owner's Handbook when it referred to the weedy steel plate eyes:

What are the bolt pattern dimensions on these. Are they the standard 4 hole size, ala NATO hitch, TD5/TDCI crossmember or different?

Thanks 👍

Right - I had thought that it being an iGuide, I'd get a notification of any amendment, or even an icon from within to allow me to check for updates. I don't seem to have either. Am I missing something?

IF the photo below is anything to go by, they are not even remotely similar.

Thanks - so it's the same message now for the rear exposed eyes:

"The rear exposed towing eyes are designed for both on-road and off-road recovery (up to 6.5 tonnes). If the exposed towing eyes are used for any other purpose, it may result in vehicle damage and can cause serious injury or death."

And if the 4 bolts are M12 10.9 they have a tensile strength of 28 tonnes; so safety factor of just over 4:1.
