If Toyota built a new Defender , it would be reliable , easier to repair and maintain, would be seen all around the globe in arduous conditions and would be affordable and probably on the market in 2006 . To summarize , a success story selling by the hundred of thousands and most probably built in Thailand , like a Hilux , Ranger , D Max etc .

^ yeah, like the LC70 (could be wrong here), which comes out with a narrower track width at the rear than the front, so you have to spend mega bucks getting the track width to be the same...

^ because when you're driving in sand/mud/ruts, it's hell of a hard to do so when your rear tyres are not following in the same track as your front ones

Think you will find that Toyota with the HiLux have their own ongoing issues at the moment
The forced generation on the dash I believe is a do it yourself solution, ie you press the go button . The wider axle mentioned earlier was because as engines got bigger the cheap solution for Toyota was to widen the front axle. As the vehicle is primarily sold for third world and Australian mining operations and did not have to comply with Euro or US testing it’s more a case of the fact that they could get away with it and nothing else. |

This forum is an amazing font of knowledge even for non-JLR products! A few years back I was asked by a Prado/ Land Cruiser owner if I had any old Landie magazines to spare. I asked why - it was because a lot of the off-road kit sold in those magazines also fits onto many of the Japanese 4x4’s too - bull bars, trim winch carriers and all sorts of accessories. Also LR kit is way way cheaper than buying imported Japanese bits, especially for the used import vehicles. My nephew had a 6 year old Toyota Tundra in Ohio, gave him no end of trouble with brake issues and rusted structural parts despite annual wax oil treatment in preparation for winter. Got rid of it for a Jeep. So not all good. 2020 Defender 110 SE 240D: Fuji White.
