2 layers of foiled-lined camping mat went inside my roof without any issues so circa 10mm. From memory there was more space available but the local Tescos had no more camping mats in stock at the time and I was in a hurry.

Pretty sure I used 12mm acoustic foam with a self ashesive backing with no problems. It's all stil up there anyway

I used 12mm closed cell foam and 3mm silent coat and it was tight! If I was doing it again with silentcoat/ dynamat or the like, then I would probably go for 10mm instead.

I used the black version of the silent coat too. To be safe it looks like the 10mm is a better bet so not to put any undue pressure on the headliner.
