Just a comment to feedback on the initial question.
Timed online auction last week at Brightwell's where I managed to secure a highest bidder at £520 on one of the lots. Email on the Thur morning to confirm that payment had been taken against the deposit I had placed with the balance of the deposit authorisation released. MOD must have accepted the bids despite not meeting the reserve. Now got the Nato hitch fitted on the rear crossmember with a spreader plate and off to collect next week. Many thanks for the advice and help offered over this post and my other query on hitches. Thanks Keith |

Well done, hopefully it’s a good buy.
Don’t forget your light board, unless you have the right connector for the mod one? 👍🏽 |

Sounds great. Well done.
How did you assess condition, were the photos good enough without needing to actually see it? |

Matt,
I'll reserve answering that until Wed . The photos were reasonable and I'll find out soon enough how representative they were. Keith Last edited by Keith5 on 27th Jul 2020 11:06am. Edited 1 time in total |

I thought these things had a maximum towing speed of 40mph, or is that just in service? I would have thought the army would at times need to move a bit quicker than that!

I've only just noticed in the Brightwells listings that there is a statement "Buyer Passport Id Required For Mod Approval Before Collection". What happens if you don't have a passport?

They've suggested either passport or driving licence in the email that they sent across with the receipt Keith

I jolly well hope they are allowed to recommence the attended auctions soon. I'm all up to go and buy a bog standard penman but I'm blowed to give them £5000 of my money to sit in their account for up to 5 days before return is a bit steep. all those £5000's sitting there is probably giving their account balance more qudos than it is sitting in mine. Just like a cheque taking days to clear and the money sitting in the banks own AC making them interest. Also can be found on Fb, Ytube, Insta & Twitter @4WDSouthwest

Assuming it sits in their account for 5 days at approx 0.5%PA interest rate that's about 34p they've gained.... Not sure that's their motivation

Brightwells auctions are way cheaper than witham etc --typically 6-700. Penman way better than WT Mk3 (I have had both) If you're building a superstructure on a penman, I'd recommend sides sloping inwards rather than vertical to optimise mirror use, and keep the centre of gravity low -- with hindsight, my WT should have been 18-10 inch lower. 110 Defender 300tdi & Penman trailer with ally exped top and roof tent |

Or you could play the long game and wait until these come to be cast:
