withams lost the contract for mod sales and they can be very hard to deal with.
all recent stock is thru brightwells. all dealers buy thru them. sale price is plus vat and fees and indemnity sometimes. so work on sale price plus 32% on top plus you need a nato hitch and light board unless you have a nato wiring plug socket that aside they are great trailers nad tow well loaded or empty and with a stainless steel tub will last much longer than the sankey models |

In addition to ^^^^, the only real annoyance is the need to either have your NATO hitch lower than the cross member (on a DB slider, for example) or to have to take the spare wheel off the back door to hitch and unhitch. I chose to keep the hitch where it is designed to be as I didn't want a drop plate at all. They're not the easiest to reverse either, but that's just short trailers for you.
If you use a DB slider it tends to make it more "nose down" than usual - they are meant to tow nose-down but this seems to exaggerate it. Definitely a better buy than any Sankey IMHO - lots about, still very cheap and mostly in great condition. I have one of the earlier-released ones (2014, in service Jan 2007) and it's only just starting to show a few tiny spots of corrosion on the chassis. |

Thanks for the replies, I'll have a look at Brightwells.
Are the other ones I mentioned just re-selling what they will have bought at Birghtwell? Nato hitch is the next thing on the list Keith |

Had some time to explore the Brightwells option and they have a sale coming up in a week or so, decided to dip into the T&Cs.
Looks like a timed auction so no access to view or bid (photos are pretty reasonable) the curve ball was the £5K deposit to be allowed to participate. I guess that's aimed at people bidding for larger qty rather than me looking for a single Penman trailer at less than £1K Has anyone recently bought on this basis? Am I mis-reading some of the details? Thanks Keith Keith Last edited by Keith5 on 20th Jul 2020 1:30pm. Edited 1 time in total |

they get lots of folk that use ebay and dont pay for things and think they can do it on every sale platform. which spoils it for the rest of us and wastes their time.
to be fair they have always been good when i have bought of them and they are short staffed as well. they give you a time to pick up and help start it (i bought a wolf as well as penman recently) |

I can understand where they are coming from, even just from my limited experience selling bits on ebay and gumtree.
I'll give them a call if I get the other half of the bill paying team on board, (it's a bit big to claim that its been there a while and she's only just noticed it ). The other option that is looking like a potential is to go down to PA Blanchard and buy one from their stock (picking the one I want out of what they have) Currently listed at £850 + VAT. Keith |

For your info,
The last Brightwells auction, Tuesday just gone, auctioned 10 Penmans. 2 sold for 800 each, the remainder sold for between 430 and 628 each. These costs are plus the buyers premium and vat (so plus 32%). Then you need to collect from their depot. The 800 each ones wern’t significantly different. I guess the person bidding really wanted them. It isn’t clear if they have covers or not, you just have to guess what the pictures show/include, and hope no one gets the contents of the trailers muddled up. The 5k deposit I think is a good idea, if you don’t buy anything it is returned in a couple of days. You can leave the deposit on a credit card, assuming it is within your limit, make sure It isn’t just before your bill is due. |

This weeks trailers went for between £480 and £530 (plus 32% Vat and buyers premium)
They didn't hit the reserve so it will be interesting to see if the MOD accept the bids or not. Keith |

TOPIC DEVIATION!!!!!!!!!!
I thought this would be better placed inside an existing Penman thread rather than starting a new one. Could someone with a Penman help me measure some dimensions? I've looked on the sites but am not certain of the dims of the outside of the tub (they all show inside of tub) and i need these to make sure I can fit one in my shed!! 1) the length from the very back of the rearmost "feature" of the trailer, to the very front edge of the tub. 2) the distance measured from the outside of the A-frame at the front of the tub, to the very widest point of the trailer (edge of the arch) I'm trying to build storage in my shed suitable such that when I get a penman... it still fits in there next to it all!! Image for clarity. Thanks. |

Certainly does, thanks for posting that much appreciated.
I'm short on the measurement 2 but i could probably guesstimate that one given the draw bar is straight not actually an A-frame as i described, could just take the width overall, half it and take off 2 x a standard hitch width. Probably close enough for where to put a shelf! |
