Now a soft top UZ would make sweet sounds between pubs!! Very Happy

The UZ engine family is a nice lump, it makes decent power out the box with the potential to go forced induction and put out 1000hp. Id say its a much more modern engine when compared to other v8 swaps, quad cam, vvti, sequential ignition and injection, drive by wire. A lot more complex, but they rarely go wrong. 1989 90 4.3 V8

Yes the whole loom is built from TE 55A wire (M22759/32). I usually buy from RS or Hilltop products, just whichever is cheapest - I say cheap, when you need 400 odd meters it starts to add up Laughing 1989 90 4.3 V8

It must be lockdown as I've been thinking about an engine upgrade. In the initial stages of researching (3 months in) to see if a B58 BMW engine would fit into a D90 and what the knock on impact would be in terms of mating to gearbox, and shafts etc, and never having done anything like this, its taking a lot of research. But you have highlighted a very prudent point, that there is no engine more reliable than a Japanese engine... and if i want to follow Andrew St.Piere White's journey across Namibia, then i need reliability over substance. Hard choices ahead.
Has anyone completely digitised their dash / instrument cluster?

This thread is brilliant, keep up the good work and great photos. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Sorry for the lack of updates I have been flat out doing the final bits to meet the tuning date - now done Very Happy

Here's a few jobs from the past few weeks.

Using the TDCI airbox i wanted something a bit neater than bending or using a flexible pipe to the now forward facing throttle body. I machined a flange from alloy which is pretty much the same as the TDCI but with the 'top box' chopped off, then some laser cut sheet metal welded on gave me the desired outlet orientation.

With the airbox complete I managed to model up some 3.5 inch diameter pipe in CAD to get some good angles so I only needed a single weld in the intake pipe. I printed the first bend to test as I had some constraints on the tightest radius i could get hold of. All the measuring paid off as it fits like a glove.

The exhaust work was carried out by a local firm who did a fantastic job, the majority of the work was done last year after I first fitted the engine and everything was being mocked up etc. It was a full manifold to tip job and it certainly threw them some challenges, especially with the space to fit the manifolds (hence we had to go for log style). It had to go back recently for a few tweaks and for the tips to be fitted now I had made up my mind! The whole system is dual 2.5” pipe with an x-pipe in the silencer and bypass valve! I’ll try to get a good video of it, no doubt the camera won’t do it justice though Sad Sad
