Series 3 Buying Worry
I’m looking at buying a Series 3 88” later this week that has a 200Tdi engine in it. From the advert it looks okay (don’t they all 😀) but I have a slight concern....

The spare wheel has a “Liveridge“ cover on it. My worry is this..... I believe that Liveridge went bust a few years ago and I have read a number of poor reviews about them. The ad says that the vehicle had a full restoration about 15 years ago but I don’t know if this was carried out by Liveridge or not.

Should I avoid this vehicle, or have a closer look anyway? Any advice, or any experiences of Liveridge would be extremely helpful.

Thanks,

They have a poor reputation locally, some well polished lemons.

If they restored it 15 years ago any problems will either be obvious now(chassis rot etc) or will have been put right by now.
I would go and look at it with an open mind. Give it a thorough going over and ask lots of questions. See what you find.

Out of interest, will you have any issues registering it France with a non original engine? A friend is looking to move to France (his wife is French) but is worried about taking his 109 with 300 tdi fitted. He seems to think he will have problems? Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

I’ll probably keep it as UK registered. Spend a lot of time in UK so it will probably stay here for the time being.

Thanks,

There’s a fat dude in our street who wears a Chelsea football top, I’m positive he doesn’t play for them....

The wheel cover may just have been acquired?

As above - the condition now is key, chassis, bulkhead, engine, transmission, steering, brakes, interior. paintwork and so on and on and on coupled with a price reflecting condition is much more important than a possible 15yo refab. Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right.

Hello.

Im going to look at this series 3 88 on Saturday afternoon (tomorrow). It's in Pulborough, West Sussex.

Please Please Please, is anyone willing to meet me there and cast an eye over it with me? Obviously I'll cover any expenses that you might incur.

If anyone could help me out I'd be forever grateful.

Thanks,

Pete. Drink Coffee, Talk to Strangers and Take Photos.
