I thought the same, sometimes with stuff like that you get new bolts supplied with thread lock pre applied surprised they dont given the use case.

That whole back beam looks pretty handy to hang things off. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

They wouldn’t be a shin scraper with the door closed because if the spare wheel

But there is definitely a possibly of bashed knees/ shins at access height with the door open trying to load something bulky into the load space which is maybe why the Defender X has red ones.



Something I was (maybe shouldn’t have been) surprised with is that the cast steel recovery eye is bolted directly onto the aluminium beam with no neoprene / nylon washer between to prevent electrolysis / oxidisation / corrosion- LR doesn’t appear to have learned much about corrosion between dis-similar metals in all those years of fitting aluminium bodies to steel chassis! Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

He’ll claim that it’s part of the carried over DNA from the Classic Defender........ along with the side hinged rear door with the spare wheel on it. Any truth in the rumour that JLR have seen sense and they are beavering away behind the scenes on a traditional Defender replacement? This being the reason why they did not sell the rights to INEOS and have tried to stop INEOS using the shape they have settled on. Seems they have brought back some designers from retirement land and given them new pencils and drawing boards to get moving. Seems they have decided on a galvanised chassis to get the march on INEOS. Expect results in four years time when the current Defender gets revamped and renamed.

The new Defender can easily be stripped of electrics, the touch screen can be removed without redesigning the dash as it’s design is already a big gaping hole, it doesn’t need Terrain Responce or air suspension. It can do without all the connectivity. If LR really wanted to they could have a proper basic Defender without redesigning a whole new vehicle.

I have been wondering about Project Zeus ~ the hydrogen cell vehicle JLR, and others, have just received funding for. It needs a platform. It has been stated everything other than Defender will be moving onto the MLA platform, with public comments that the Defender is not an appropriate vehicle to be electrically powered but could be better suited to hydrogen.

If I squint hard, I can just see this on the horizon, either that or it's a red herring. Either way, it could also be a ginormous white elephant.

Where's the Defender in this line up? Shocked

The more powerful D350 achieves up to 30.8mpg (9.2l/100km) with CO2 emissions of 241g/km on the WLTP cycle. As a result, the new flagship diesel provides superior performance to the previous V8 with the efficiency and weight of a six-cylinder design.

The new engine range comprises:

Diesel:

D250 – 249PS (183kW), 3.0-litre six cylinder diesel MHEV, 600Nm of torque at 1,250-2,250rpm*

Looks like Defender is set to get either D300 or D350 or both in the coming months according to this article

The introduction of 48V electrical hardware also helps make the new engine RDE2-compliant. It’s expected to be added to the new Land Rover Defender in the coming months and could be the 4x4’s sole engine option in the US.”
